Sorry I've been incognito as of late! I've been workin' like a mad man, and honestly have barely had time to breathe, let alone update the delightful method lust! I promise to try harder, but you know, perhaps after the holiday season (not much method news happening at the moment, anyway!) Hey, stop reading this, and go play the game!

method holiday 2010!

method's holiday hand washes are finally starting to hit Target stores nationwide! Now the ho, ho, holidays can officially begin!

I noticed an end cap of method hand washes at my local Target today! Interestingly enough it was an entire end cap filled with your every day method hand wash scents (including the foaming hand washes that I could have sworn were discontinued from Target?! Maybe they brought them back for a bit to fill shelf space?) but on the second from top shelf sat hollyberry, cinnamon bark, and peppermint vanilla! So when you're out and about running over old ladies and beating down children this Black Friday, make sure to pick up some bottles of holiday method hand wash!

Now, just as interesting was, on the very top shelf of this method end cap sat a new brand of hand wash I'd never heard of, in three holiday scents! The brand was motif, and the scents were cyprus and pear, pomegranate and rose, and peppermint bark. The peppermint bark smells exactly like method's peppermint vanilla, the pomegranate and rose smelled like fruity roses (how this is a Christmas scent is beyond me?!) but the cyprus and pear scent! Oh my! It's like the light scent of christmas trees meets a fresh slice of pear! I'll definitely be picking this up! (How I wish Target was also carrying another year round scent of theirs, citrus zest and ginger. It's fresh ginger blended with zesty orange and lime with the warmth of clove and nutmeg. How holiday does that sound?! Wow!)

I did some research (well, what I could) into the brand, and found out it's made by Daub & Dauble, an upscale cleaning line (which is actually made by a company called Goodwell & Company.) The bottles definitely look like Daub & Dauble (with their cute wallpaperish bottle patterns.) Does anyone know if this company is a green/environmentally-friendly brand? All I've found on the motif site are a couple of comments including "naturally formulated with aloe, biodegradable and recyclable" (that sounds pretty green to me, right?) and "outside's as good as their insides" which sorta sound green, but actually could just be talking about the cute bottle designs and fragrances. So if anyone has any info., please comment!

So the holidays are here... sort of. Have you already decked the halls? Are you counting down the shopping days left? Already having the ever dreaded holiday office party? Craving method holiday scented hand soap?

holiday preview

While it's not going to be available at your local Target until early November, take a peek at what you can already find (and buy) at drugstore.com! method's holiday 2010 line of hand washes in hollyberry, cinnamon bark, and peppermint vanilla! Unfortunately that looks like all we'll be getting, as method pretty much slashed their holiday line last year (remember all those wonderful dish soaps, spray cleaners, candles and aroma sprays, as well as new scents each year... mmm!)

...which brings us to something interesting. Seems Mrs. Meyers has taken notice of the fact that a substantial holiday line is missing from the green cleaning products category once more, and started bulking up their own! This year brings us spray cleaner, dish soap, hand wash and a candle in orange clove! And you can also pick up last years Iowa pine, as well as new cranberry and snicker doodle scents - all in candles!

So while it's unfortunate method has decided to roll up their holiday line (and give us the same scents as last year) we can at least look forward to some great new environmentally friendly holiday products and scents from Mrs. Meyers this year! They'll probably hit stores at about the same time as method's holiday hand wash line. (But you can already purchase Mrs. Meyers online, as well!)

holiday in august?

Are you ready for the holidays? No, not yet? What are you talkin' about? It's only four months away! Whew! I'll let that one sink in for a bit...

Because method seems to have just announced their holiday 2010 line (via their Facebook page!) Sad face, I'm pretty sure all we're going to be seeing are hand washes this year, as last year was hand washes and candles. And uhm, aircare is dead. So, no holiday candles.

The news says that hollyberry, peppermint vanilla and cinnamon bark are making a return!

Personally, I'm hoping they throw in a few additional scents (like frosted fir! It was delightfully Christmas in a bottle, people! Christmas. In. A. Bottle! But alas...) I'd also love to see spiced pear make a comeback. It's a huge hit for method every time, so I'm sorta surprised we're not seeing it this year. I've always loved how method used to switch out holiday scents each year, so you were never sure what you'd be getting that year; but usually knew your favorites would return a year or two down the line, and you'd get a new scent or two! Now it appears that method seems to have decided these are their best selling three holiday scents, so they're just sticking with tried and true.

What are your thoughts on this? Want to see new scents? Old ones return (and if so, which ones?) Or love this news? (Here's to hoping they have a few more holiday goodies up their sleeves! I sincerely miss all the dish soap, and spray cleaners.)

holiday gone?

So I'm noticing something troublesome this weekend while strolling through two Target stores. It appears the method holiday line we've received in the stores MIGHT (and that's a big might, as I don't have any official word yet) be it. No additional shipments?

Upon sniffing around the first Target store, I noticed all the cinnamon bark candles were gone, AND the price tag had been flipped over, so it was just a white tag. method hand wash had been put in place of the candles. And at the second store, I noticed not only was the cinnamon bark candles gone, but the tag was gone as well. All that remained were the hollyberry and peppermint vanilla tags. and even the hollyberry candles were gone! So it looks like this might be a case of stock up while you can, because usually Target will just keep restocking when they sell out (especially since uhm, it's not even December yet?) but they're doing some weird things here this year.

Grab it while you can, advocates! I'll let you know if I can get more information on this!

seasonal savings!

UPDATE Just heard back from the wonderful Sarah at method, and she's got an update on the holiday backorder issue a lot of people are experiencing. It appears there may be two answers.

"1) We are restocking items later this week- orders will be shipped out Monday; and 2) We are pulling items off of the site as we sell out - unfortunately it takes about a day before it appears off of the site. Currently we are ALL out of 3 items, and will be reaching out to those who ordered them and got a backordered notice: spiced pear surface spray, peppermint vanilla surface spray, and hollyberry dish soap."

As I guessed, the hot items (spiced pear and hollyberry dish soap; well, maybe only hot because those were the ones I had my sights on, and I knew they'd sell out quickly; as this was only back stock they were trying to sell) are history.

Here's hoping next year method catches a holiday clue, and brings back everyone's favorite holiday products! I know everyone was excited to see some of them appear on the website, but for many of us it seems it might have been "too good to be true" as they were snatched up quickly, and had a low count to begin with on the remaining products available.

I'll have a post shortly on the whole holiday products line (or lack of), so look for that soon! I hope this at least answers some people's questions concerning their orders.

Head on over for some great finds (unless you have band practice, a car pool, or you're still at work. If so, you might want to wait until after, ok?) Ah heck, shop at work! holiday is really real here?!

method lust reader Tracy says in her email to me she practically ran home to tell me the big news! (Which is so sweet of her! Thanks Tracy!) While roaming the aisles of her local metro Atlanta Target last night, she actually stumbled upon a brand spankin' new holiday sparklin' method endcap chock full of holiday candles in frosted bowls and hand soap! In all the 2009 (2007) holiday scents: cinnamon bark, hollyberry, and peppermint vanilla!

Looks like this might just be a case of one Target store getting a bit prematurely excited; but it is supposed to hit at the end of October/early November! So if you happen to see holiday method hit your Target stores (or any stores for that matter, as I believe that hand wash is available to all stores, while the candles are a Target exclusive. Yeah, I could go back and re-read my previous post, but I'm sorta lazy tonight!) drop me an email or leave a comment and let method lust know what you found!

surprise finds!

I've noticed my exclamation point over usage has seeped into my post titles now! They're everywhere! Everywhere, I tell you! Ah!)

I took a quickity-quick trip into Ross today (a store in the same vein as Marshalls, TJ Maxx, etc.) because I knew they carried clearance Target items every once in a while. Specifically Target brand candles, etc. So as I wondered down the candle/fragrance aisle, what did I stumble upon but some lavender + lemongrass candles! In the new glass bowls! Now, these were the old "hard to burn" formula, so I sorta passed, but they were only $2.99! Then I noticed around five cut grass aroma pills (the whole set, pill and refill) for a mere $4.49! And finally I saw two cinnamon bark aroma stick sets for $4.99 each! (A perfect find for the upcoming holidays! Especially since we won't be getting aroma sticks in this year's holiday line.) Wow!

If you have a Ross near you, a trip to the store might be in order! Let me know if you happen to find anything different, or what you pick up, method style! (You can also tell me what you pick up non-method style, but then I don't want you to think I'm straight up nosey, so really, you don't have to, alright? Cool.)

holiday sneak peek!

Yeah, yeah, you read right lusters! We're being treated to a method holiday sneak peek! (I mean, can you believe the holidays are almost upon us? Geesh! I still haven't finished eating all of last year's Christmas candy! Oh right, I should probably just uh, throw that away now, shouldn't I? Ok. Goodbye candy canes. So long peppermint bark. Oh, look, now I can buy new holiday candy! Yay!)

So, without delay, some good news, and some (bad?) news!

+ The good! method holiday 2009 will see three big returns! This year's scents will be hollyberry, peppermint vanilla, and cinnamon bark! Can you believe peppermint vanilla is making a return? I know there are a lot of peppermint vanilla fans who have been waiting for this! And all three scents come back to us from their previous 2007 visit!

These scents will be available in soy candles, and our ever faithful gel hand wash! (Are you not just lusting after those colored soy candle bowls! I can't wait to pick some up! Drool!) Look for them to hit stores in late October/early November. The hand wash will actually be available to any retail stores that carry method products; while the candles are a Target exclusive!

+ And (the bad?) No new scents this year! And the product line has been slashed! We're talking no dish soap, no aroma sticks, aroma rings, pills, sprays, spray cleaners, or limited edition products! Nada! I'm really surprised at this, as I always thought these products (at least dish soap, and spray cleaners) were always big sellers during the holidays! I know method said they wanted to return to some of their product roots; and their original line usually only consisted of hand wash, maybe lotion, and candles. But over the last few years we've been treated to quite a grand expansion of the holiday products, and I couldn't wait to fill my house with all the wonderful goodies!

clean sweeps

method has been awfully quiet as of late, but last night they sprung (is sprung a word? Eh, I'm gonna use it anyway, what can you do?) back to life! A couple of interesting comments included:

+ Hints are that cinnamon bark and peppermint vanilla will be making a return this holiday season. Whether it will be part of the core holiday line, or an offshoot, sort of like what they did this year, releasing the hand wash in grocery stores, etc. remains to be seen. So if you don't have a Big Lots near you, and can't pick up some leftover cinnamon bark or peppermint vanilla, never fear!

+ It doesn't look like there are any current plans to bring back the aircare cut grass scent. But they do also mention they still have cut grass aroma sticks on method home to purchase!

+ Crazy alert! So, a while back when method had their aroma sprays on sale, I picked up a couple bottles of pomegranate tea! Mmm... So the other day I went to spray it, and take in that wonderful fragrance, and I did, and then went "Uh, I don't smell a thing?" Suddenly worried that these North Carolina allergies had permanently taken away my ability to smell, I got nervous, and tried the second bottle. Nothing! Then I grabbed some other bottles in different scents, and ah! I could smell them.

I have an old bottle of pom tea at work, so I gave it a spray. Mmm! So I've decided, through some freak occurrence not unlike Virgin Marys showing up on grilled cheese sandwiches (come on now, don't you think if the Virgin Mary wanted to pop up, she's have a little more class than to do so on a grilled cheese?! She's the Virgin Mary! But I digress...) these two bottles have no scent in them! Crazy! Has anyone else had this issue? I'm curious! I've asked method about this, and will hopefully get a response soon! (It could very well be a "you've gone mad!" BUT, I also tested it on a friend, and she came to the same conclusion.) To be continued...

So while checking out the last Big Lots in my local area (or the last one I can find, darn it! I'll find you, if you're hiding!) I stumbled upon, oh my word, cinnamon bark, hollyberry, and peppermint vanilla candles! Yes! I was so surprised! (And I did forget to mention something else reader Brit had also found, which was a package set in either cucumber, or lavender (though I've only found the cucumber ones) of dish soap, hand wash, wipes, and multisurface spray cleaner. They used to have these as "college kits" at Target! They come in a wire basket, as well! AND, I found gingerbread + spice candles, too! In the new glass jars, and the old school ceramic ones.) ANYWAY, I got SO excited at my newest method find (me likey some candles!) that I suddenly came to a sobering notion:

"If method products were a movie star, I'd have a restraining order against me."

Yes, yes, it's seriously true. How about you?

clean sweeps!

+ Big Lots blowout! If you haven't taken a trip to your local Big Lots lately, do! It looks like method (or whoever sends these things out? I'm not sure...) has done a big new shipment! Lusters from all over are finding all sorts of method greatness! In fact, I decided to head out this weekend, and found a slew (I'm talkin' slew!) of ginger yuzu hand wash in gel and foaming varieties! As well as some sweet water hand wash (again in both versions), a couple bottles of sweet water laundry detergent, more eucalyptus + mint gel hand wash (again, tons of it!) and let's not forget some almond flower, olive leaf, and white tea creamy hand wash!

Reader Josh found the above hand soap combo packs (which I've never even seen!) in sweet water and green tea + aloe. A mere $6. for 2 bottles and a 25 oz. refill! So definitely head on over to Big Lots, and find some finds!

+ And speaking of finds, Josh is a lucky, lucky man! Check out this photo!

He found this display at his local Wegman's (and I so wish we had this chain in the south east! MAN! Look at all those candles... sniff sniff. And aroma beads. Oh, I'm in pain! Pain, I tell ya! So much lusting, so little time.) He says: "Hand soaps, rings, candles, beads, and sticks were all there (and on sale too! $2.79 for soap I believe, $9.99 for rings, $4.99 for candles or something ...i forget really. the only thing missing was the all surface spray." Oh, Josh, and I think the dish soap is missing as well.

It makes my tiny little cardboard stand at my Harris Teeter look so puny in comparison. And speaking of said cardboard stand, my fears were true! No restock! I just went yesterday, and the stand was gone! Gone. And I found two little bottles, one cinnamon bark, and one peppermint vanilla, just shoved on an end cap, with cereal. LOL The poor cinnamon bark bottle is all banged up and dented. And no one loves it. Didn't they see Rudolph? Don't they know about misfit toys? Won't someone take in this little sad bottle? So anyway, it looks like you definitely need to be picking up these last year finds while you can, cause when they're gone, they're gone! ...Unless you have a Wegman's, it looks like. Then you can swim in method holiday products. Sigh!

+ Josh (he's popular in this post!) also asked if anyone has seen any method dryer sheets. As he's been looking everywhere, but no luck. Unforunately, as far as I know Josh, the only place to find them right now is on method's site. Target pulled the wet dry sheets ages ago, and they've since been discontinued (I swear, if Big Lots shows up some lavender + juniper wet dry sheets, I'm buying out the LOT! I'm so not joking! Oh, I lust those things...) method is replacing the line with the new wet dry sheets in sweet water, rice milk + mallow, and go naked. BUT, I haven't seen those anywhere yet. And the original dryer sheets were gone long, long ago (in a galaxy far away!)

all that's old is new again

After heating up some really tasty apple pie, and pouring a piping hot cup of tea, I was all ready for breakfast! (Yes, breakfast, don't ask. No, I don't usually eat apple pie for breakfast, but man, this is some good apple pie. And hey, is it any worse than those Starbucks muffins and such? Eh, I think not. If so, let me live in breakfast ignorance.) And then I went to grab my cream (I'm an English type of hot tea drinker, I suppose. Gotta have the cream.) and... it was bad. Dang! So on went my blue jeans, out the door I ran, off to the grocery store! Which in my part of the woods, is (mainly) Harris Teeter. (I just checked, they're located in the southeast.)

While roaming down the aisles, cause it was way too early to actually remember where they kept the cream (Dairy aisle, Nathan. Dairy aisle. I know, I know! But it's too early, and I'm tired even though I just woke up, and I want my apple pie!) guess what I found! A brand spanking new cardboard stand of method holiday hand wash! And not just any holiday hand wash, but last years! method said to be on the lookout for their return, in stores other than Target. And the (apparent) difference between this and the recent finds at Office Max, are these look to be new, while Office Max's seem to be leftovers from last year. (I could be wrong on all of this, though. Hey, I'm only human. Well, mostly.)

I remember method's holiday design for last year was imagery with those little plastic reindeers, with the glowing red noses. And this cardboard stand, holding the hand washes, had a snowman on it, with method information. I so wanted to take a pic for the blog, but man, it's like right out in the middle of the aisle for all to see, and I knew I'd be in trouble if I started flicking away with my digital camera! Of course I could wear my method shirt into the store, and look all professional... hmm?

Anyway, all three scents from last year, hollyberry, peppermint vanilla, and cinnamon bark are available at your local Harris Teeter! So be sure to hunt out the little cardboard stand somewhere in your store, cause these hand washes are not on shelves.

Plus, speaking of Harris Teeter, right now they are having some amazing sales on method products! Literally every method product was on sale, so check them out and pick up some backstock! You can never have enough method! Well, until you've filled up your entire house with method products, and can no longer live in your home, because it's now a method storage unit. Which I think method might find bad, just cause, you know living on the street so you can have one of every method product isn't really what they had in mind (I don't think, hmm...)

As I'm sitting here burning my frosted fir candle (yes, yes! I'm early! You know, I try really hard to draw that whole fall first, then holiday/Christmas line. And I've decided my scents (because it's really important to make decisions like this, you know! The world depends on it!) that this year spiced pear and cinnamon bark are my fall/Thanksgiving scents, with frosted fir and hollyberry rounding out the holidays!) BUT I decided last night I wanted to really give my frosted fir candle a good try, so here I am, burning away!

Which got me to thinking, I know, it's a month away, but we're insane! We're crazed! We're obsessed! So I know a lot of us method lusters have already picked up their holiday line (or at least some of it!) And I'm wanting to know, what are your thoughts so far?

PS - I guess frosted fir is doing it's thing! I had it burning at work as well (I know, I'm crazy!) and my boss walked through going "Hmm? What's that smell? It smells like a Christmas tree!" and I told him it was my (method!) candle. I can't decide if it's too hollyberry, or has enough tree scent; but apparently he's proven it definitely smells like Christmas tree!

holiday line-up

If you ask, you shall receive! (And I feel your pain!) Here goes. Each year method has slowly put out more holiday product! Yay! We lust that! Unfortunately, as more product hits the shelf, not every scent gets a full line. I would have bought up every little thing Frosted Fir came in this year, if it were available in a full line! BUT, unfortunately, it's not. (They chose Winter Berry. Not sure why... Ok, ok, don't hate me Winter Berry fans! I know, it's just a personal choice!)

So here is the breakdown:

+ Spiced Pear and Winter Berry scents - gel hand wash, dish soap, spray cleaner, aroma rings, aroma sticks, potpourri ornaments, large candles (6.5 oz), and candle trios (6.0 oz)

+ Frosted Fir and Toasted Hazelnut - gel hand wash, large candles (6.5 oz) (I'm afraid that's it! Sniff sniff. Hopefully Frosted Fir will sell well, and they'll bring it back in a larger product line next holiday!)

I've asked method if the holiday line will have aroma pill refills, as last year the pill refills hit separately, and later in the season (not sure why?) But I haven't heard back from them as of yet. When I find out, I'll let you know! (Hey, official method people, do you know the answer? Thanks!)

+ Gingerbread + Spice (fall limited edition) - aroma spray, large candle (6.5 oz), aroma pill refills, and aroma ring refills

+ Pomegranate Tea (fall limited edition) - aroma spray, large candle (6.5 oz), aroma pill refills, and aroma ring refills

And yes, (unless method realizes how amazing the Pomegranate Tea scent is, and makes it's an official line-up) all of these scents are limited to their fall/Holiday lines. Holiday is usually discontinued around January, while fall sometimes makes it 'til early spring.

Some readers have also found Hollyberry, Cinnamon Bark, and Peppermint Vanilla at Bed, Bath And Beyond, and Office Max. These are leftovers from last year, and vary as to what product they come in (ranging from candles, to spray cleaner, aroma sticks, and gel hand wash.)

I still haven't heard from anyone concerning any special edition scents available at Costco (which method is known for having) so until I hear something, I'll take it they may not have released anything different to Costco this year.

is the bark back?

UPDATE AND, the bark is back! - Sorta. I did indeed stop in Office Max today, and low and behold, they had a small holiday section in the store (like, small. And not in the green section, like Netta's. In fact, my store's green section was a tiny endcap. Seriously, I asked. Sad, I know.) But it appears (at least at my store) these are leftovers from last year. As the aroma sticks I found were last years short, round bottom glazed ceramic vases. (Not the inverted ones Netta mentioned. So I'm not sure what's up?) And I found the hand wash in all three scents (only three bottles of each.) No all surface cleaner. (They also had some method hand sanitizer in the general cleaning section, for those that lusted it! It's been gone for a while from method's product line.) So I picked me up some Cinnamon Bark hand wash! I'm so excited! Thanks Netta, you are the best! (PS - it's all a bit pricier than Target, $3.99 for hand wash, $14.99 for the aroma sticks. But I expected that, unforunately, at a store like this.)

...and the peppermint vanilla, and the hollyberry? method lust reader Netta mentioned to me that on a recent trip to Office Max, she discovered the green products section of the store! And that wasn't the only thing she discovered:

Aroma sticks in hollyberry, cinnamon bark, and peppermint vanilla and they were in the new inverted ceramic containers. They also had the surface spray in all three scents. Now I remember reading your blog and you mentioned that these scents were from last year, so as I stood there staring at them wondering where in the world did they come from? Are these leftovers from last year and if so how did the aroma sticks make it into the new inverted ceramic containers? Are these scents making an appearance this holiday season or only at certain retailers?"

Wow! Could this be the "only in limited availability" caveat that was mentioned for peppermint vanilla's holiday return (as well as luster Quill being told earlier this year that cinnamon bark hand wash would be back!) I sure don't know, Netta! But I'll be making an Office Max run real quick like, you can be sure of that! If anyone else takes note of these items at Office Max, let method lust know! Also, Costco has been known to carry fall edition, and holiday versions of method products. ring a-ding-ding

I feel method's never one to shy away from some constructive criticism (that's how you improve upon things, now isn't it?) So check out The Green Clean Review, as it zings the ring.

"I was tempted to title this post "Method Stink Ring", because I'm feeling a bit lazy, and I couldn't remember what it was called. Turns out, I was pretty close. Anyway, my need to stick one of everything scented in my apartment, prompted me to bring one of these home as soon as I saw them. I also nabbed one for my sister's birthday, as she likes the Method "Cut Grass" scent. (She claims it reminds her of the old Gap "Grass" perfume.)

So, two grass aroma rings later, I was home and placing the white plastic ring on my bathroom shelf. I was impressed to actually be catching whiffs of the thing when I walked into our tiny bathroom as well.

Basically, you get two foil-wrapped scent disks per pack, and then you can buy refill 2-packs in any scent as often as you want. (They claim a single disc lasts at least 2 weeks.) You peel off the foil, revealing a thin membrane. It's tempting to poke at the thing, but will probably lead to alien mutations (so I've refrained thus far.) The white ring takes two aroma disks for maximum scent, but I've never used two (seems too wasteful, even to get more scent.)

In our new apartment the thing sits on the back of my toilet, and I swear I've never caught even the faintest whiff of it. I tried the second grass disk and then moved onto a "Eucalyptus Mint" one. (It was the only kind that passed the husband-sniff test at Target.) For some reason, the EM scent isn't on Method's site. Mine is blue like their "Sweet Water" version, but perhaps it's been replaced.

I am honestly about ready to give up on the aroma ring. It reminds me of the "diffuser sticks" I bought at Whole Foods a couple of years ago. Never smelled those either. I'm willing to concede that my small nose (seriously) might be keeping me from properly whiffing the aroma ring. I just put the last EM disk in today... the ring is on its last chance before it gets replaced with some home made potpourri or a cute nicknack. Don't get me wrong, I couldn't chuck it (I may have a change of heart and want to refill it), but it's becoming a waste of space.

Now you know just HOW much I lust for some method, right? But I gotta agree a bit here. Keep in mind everyone has their own opinion, and one persons unending drool fest may be another person's 'eh'. But the aroma ring has just never done much for me. In fact I have one in my kitchen at this very moment, and I barely smell the thing (in lovely cinnamon bark! Mmm!) I've decided (for myself) the aroma pills and sprays are the way to go. The aroma pills get a boost from being plugged into an outlet, the heat giving it the extra bang it needs to disperse throughout the room (and doing so nicely!) The aroma ring reminds me of a previous product method had, the aroma capsule. So cute in design, but the scent never made it anywhere. BUT, I think a big determining factor in whether the aroma ring works great for you or not is the size of the room you put it in. My kitchen is just a tad too big for that ring, I think. I mean, the proof is right here:
