danny's discovery

Danny, Danny, Danny. Admit it. You don't really read method lust, do you? Oh, you might skim a post here or there, but really, really read it, no I don't think you do. Because if you did, you'd know I've been screaming the wonders of Baggu Bags for well, 2 years now! (Psst - I'm just giving method's Green Co-Conspirator, Danny Seo, some humorous jabbing. Why?)

Cause over on his personal blog, Daily Danny (full up on lots of grand green stuff!), he's finally discovered the greatness that is Baggu Bags! Danny writes:

"Twice a year in NYC is the New York International Gift Fair. It’s when designers/vendors and buyers collide and when decisions are made what home, beauty, and anything else you can pick up in a department store, catalog or gift store will be made. There is literally hundreds of thousands of items, some beautiful, some inventive, some eco-friendly and some outright what-are-they-thinking? worthy. This post is dedicated to the greener and better products I found this week.

Reusable tote bags have become like building a better mousetrap. Sure, everyone has as reusable bag and every store is selling all different types. There are plenty of terrible bags: the ones that barely hold anything or they rip after a few uses or have the giant SAFEWAY SUPERMARKETS logo emblazoned on the side. Not cool. So, the hunt for a pack of reusable tote bags that are sturdy, colorful, lightweight and can hold a whole cart’s worth of food may be over with these Baggu Bags.

All five of them fit into a tiny little bag. Because the nylon bags “memorize” the crease marks, they are very easy to fold right back up into tiny little squares. Each bag can actually hold up to 50 pounds each, meaning you can haul 250 pounds worth of groceries to and from your car to the house. The biggest question is: why on Earth are you buying 250 pounds of groceries?!? That question for another day…"

+

You'd think Baggu Bags were paying me for all the endorsements I seem to give them here on method lust! But no! (But uhm, Baggu, if you're reading this and just wanna send me free bags for spreading the word, I'm always open to that option! Ha ha!) Just like my ridiculously unhealthy love for method products, Baggus also hold a special place in my heart (which could be why there's no room for a boyfriend! Between method and Baggu, and maybe comic books (hey, I went to college to be a comic book illustrator, ok, so stop making fun of me!), there's no more room! Sorry guys! Yeah, yeah, that's what I'm gonna tell myself when I'm all alone this Valentine's day! That'll do the trick...oh, I'm so off topic here!) They're just really, really, really (one more time) really awesome bags! Of course everyone has their favorite brand, and I know there are lots of nifty styles and types out there; but for me, it's gotta be Baggu!

Be sure to read all about the other discoveries Danny found at the NY Gift Fair (man, I bet it would rock to go to something like that!); and be sure to give Baggu Bags a try! I bet you'll lust them as much as I do!

And if you've got a favorite reusable bag/tote you use all the time, drop a comment and give us the name and website/where they can be purchased! Let's spread the resuable bag love!

crafty tricks or treats!

Just in case you haven't had a chance to check out these two nifty Halloween craft projects (cause method lust is behind, behind, behind! But then again, uh, you all know why by now, right?)

You can download the stencils here! And all the details are here! And they are even having a contest! "Show off your pumpkin carving skills and win. go to our Facebook page and upload a picture of the pumpkin you carve with your method stencil. the winner (chosen at random) gets a fall cornucopia-inspired batch of products. just think gingerbread spice, almond, vanilla apple. Total value $50. contest ends 10/31/09."

AND, and, right now (until 10/31/09) you can get 20% off any purchase on methodhome.com! Just enter the promo code halloween09 during checkout!

Here are some of the method pumpkin entries!

+

Second up is this oh so cute "carved" hand wash bottle! Danny Seo, method's Healthy Home 'co-conspirator', has come up with this quick and easy craft.

He says: "As a magazine editor, i’ve put together many halloween parties photographed for the pages of some of the largest lifestyle magazines out there.

what many readers don’t realize is that the beautiful buffets of halloween treats, intricately carved pumpkins illuminated by the flicker of candlelight, and the fabric-draped ghosts hanging in the trees over bushels of hay stacked just so took days to put together. and behind the scenes, there are glue-gun wielding stylists lugging suitcases full of every crafting supply and tool you could imagine. in other words: good luck on re-creating the bewitching projects!

so, when my friends at method asked me to come up with a halloween craft idea, i jumped at the chance but decided to keep it realistic. some rules:

+ i wanted to “upcycle” existing method packaging
+ the supplies had to be things most of us have around the house.
+ it had to be quick.
+ i’ve been using (and loving) the “guest star” limited edition mandarin mango hand wash i picked up at target. using that, here’s the world’s easiest upcycling project for halloween.

1. find some black duct tape
2. cut out eyes, a nose and a mouth
3. stick on the bottle.
4. voila! pumpkin hand wash!"

Have fun! And Happy Halloween week!

squeezably cute

Check these out! They're little adorable method promotional sponges! Danny Seo (who has this great method post over on his site, daily danny!) blogged about these recently, and I just think they're awesome! Must find a way to get some! Sounds like the sponges are given away at method parties and such! Danny used these recently to decorate for a blogher party method threw! Too much fun!

method spree winner

One more, ok? Just one more! In case you were simply too lazy to click on this link, I'm posting the article right here on method lust for you! Enjoy! (Unless you're just plain sick of the whole thing, then move on. Simply move on. No hurt feelings here, ma'am. Sir.)

By the way, the winner of the method spree contest was recently announced! Michael Sileno of Greensboro, NC won the gogreentriad.com contest, and method shipped him EVERYTHING I snatched up on my shopping spree! So cool! He was really excited, saying "Thanks! I got the stuff yesterday and it's all amazing. I really appreciate it all!" That had to be SOME shipping charge, let me tell you! Enjoy!

"Green cleaning company rewards local fan with shopping spree | By Morgan Josey Glover

Method Products Inc. has thousands of fans throughout the country and Danny Seo figured Greensboro resident Nathan Aaron had to be the biggest.

“We decided to surprise him and meet with him,” said Seo, a national environmental lifestyle expert who helps promote the San Francisco company’s non-toxic household products. “Rarely do you find someone who is such a fan of green cleaning products that it becomes an obsession.”

Seo made a pit stop in Greensboro on Thursday to take Aaron on a shopping spree. His rule: Aaron could take home as many method® products that he could carry by himself.

Aaron started on the path toward an environmentally-friendly lifestyle after stumbling upon method® products several years ago. He fell in love with a blue bottle of mint-scented dishwashing liquid and its triangular shape.

“I think the design and all pushed me to go green,” said Aaron, a graphic artist and self-described mint addict. “I’m not sure I would have gone green without method® products being out there.”

Aaron started a blog in 2008 called “method lust,” where he writes everything one could ever want to know about the 9-year-old company. He racked up more than 600 posts last year -- an average 1.5 posts per day -- and features profiles of method® employees he interviewed, and listings of product scents, from citrus cilantro to ginger yuzu.

Aaron has made other lifestyle changes, including giving up paper towels and plastic shopping bags. He’s mulling whether to switch his Mercury Mountaineer to a more fuel-efficient vehicle, but said he’s not ready to start backyard composting.

Aaron admits his method® fixation, though, is a little scary. He has cabinets full of the company’s old product lines and he purchased a lemongrass-scented air freshener refill two hours before his shopping spree at a Lowe’s Home Improvement store on Battleground Avenue.

Once there, he loaded up on $173 worth of products, piled high in his arms and hanging from his fingers and belt loops. A big enough stash to feed his green cleaning appetite for months to come."

dilutable danny

Danny Seo has a new post up over on his blog, Daily Danny, praising method's wonderful new dilutable cleaner!

"Lately I’ve been obsessed—of all things—Kool-Aid. Yes, the sugary powdered drink you just add water to make pitchers and pitchers of fruity punch. And why not? It’s Summer and it’s something I remember growing up drinking but haven’t had in least 20 years. So, cheers to Kool-Aid and my red-stained lips and tongue.

So, it’s no surprise that I’m equally as enthusiastic for Method’s new Dilutable Cleaner, a super-concentrated all-purpose cleaner that you—wait for it—just add water to to clean all over the house. With thousands of square feet of floors in my house—faux bois stamped ceramic, recycled wood floors, hand poured stone—-I need a big bucket and a handy mop once in a while to clean-up all the built up dirt and debris that has collected. This sounds like the perfect eco solution to use on a rainy day when I’m stuck inside with nothing to but clean and enjoy a cool glass of Kool-Aid. Spiked. But with organic vodka."

+

Yay! You know, I find this product interesting. method used to carry another similar dilutable product (since most people seem to be using this for floor care), and it came in a big bottle scented in french lavender and rosemary mint. I still have a couple bottles! Then they discontinued that item, and brought out the prediluted version for wood and all-surface floor care. And now the dilutable is back (sorta!)

Honestly, I'm a tad too lazy for the whole bucket and omop thing. That's why I lust me some squeeze and go. AND I think I've found a solution to my bucket problem (if I haven't, let's all just pretend I have, and keep me happy and oblivious, ok?) I take an old lemon ginger "all-floor-one" bottle that I've used up, and I wash it out; then I refill it with half dilutable cleaner, half water. Are those the exact measures? Eh, I'm not sure. But hey, it works for me. Then I have the ease of a squeeze and go bottle, and the inexpensive price of a dilutable cleaner! Win, win!

Ok... maybe I'll go read those exact measurements now... Oh bottle? Where are you bottle? There you are, my little bottle! Ohh, who's so limey and green! Oh yes, you are! Yes yes, you are. You little limey green thing you!

summer with seo!

It's a video kind of day here at methodlust! method's official people against dirty blog has posted this video with Danny Seo, giving us some cool environmental ways of getting rid of mosquitos and entertaining with style in the summer! Enjoy!

one more for the road

You didn't actually think I was finished, did you? Oh no. My intention is to become a bigger internet sensation than Susan Boyle! So let the backlash begin! (Because with internet sensation, is always fan backlash! We have such a short love/hate time frame nowadays, you know? I think everyone is secretly A.D.D. Let's just blame it all on MTV, ok? "MTV, what's that?" "I know, I know...")

Honestly, I was thinking against posting this. Me + video = scariness. Seriously. I hate photos of me, so don't even get me started on video. And I am the worst when a question is thrown at me on the spot. Oh trust me, you'll agree once you see me answer these questions! Ha ha! But alas, I decided to post it anyway. So enjoy the train wreck, ok? And experience my big method post first hand!

more me

Trust me, ok. I'm so not this vain! I know by now you're all just so tired of hearing about ME and my VISIT with METHOD! (Did I mention lately I was was visited by method?! No, well, let me just tell you!...) I mean, sometimes even I get sick of myself. I'll wake up and walk into the bathroom, look into the mirror and be all "You?! Again! Word, can't you just leave me alone for one minute! I don't need a shadow! Well, I do, or if I didn't, that might mean I was dead, and that would really suck, cause I'm like phobia style scared of death; but still, just give me some space, ok! It's not you, it's me. No, actually, it is you!" and then I'll pause, and remember what my therapist said about self love (no not that kind of self love!) and I'll stick post-it notes on the mirror that say things like "I heart you" and "you're great" and "let's be best friends" and "Is that a new shirt? It looks snazzy on you!" and stop being all mean to myself. At least until the steam from the showers finally causes the post-it notes to fall from the mirror, then the vicious cycle starts all over...

Y'ok! Well, but listen. I just had to let you know, Danny Seo (method's Healthy Home 'co-conspirator'! Oh, you already knew that, now didn't you) wrote up a short and sweet post on his recent trip to ole' North Carolina (and his visit with me! Hey, did I tell you about that?) But hey, forget about me for a moment (how is that even possible? I know, I know...) but he goes on to mention the Lowe's Hardware corporate headquarters, and how amazing they are. And yes...

...they are amazing! Hey, who'd like to go sell lumber with me? Man, this place is beautiful! And a cafeteria with organic/vegetarian/etc. food options, and wow!

Check out the complete post (with more Lowe's pics!) over on Daily Danny!

my big method post!

Are you ready for the longest post in the history of method lust?...

The email said "Danny Seo and I will be in Charlotte at the end of next (keep this word in mind, it's slightly important. Well, more so just to show how slow I am sometimes!) week for a media tour we're doing with Lowe's. Wondering what your schedule is like Thursday? But wanted to see if you would be free and would even want to meet us? - Rachel, method PR"

Alright, a couple points to note here. A) Would I want to meet Danny Seo, method's Healthy Home 'co-conspirator' and Rachel Goldberg, method's Squire of Scoop? Nah, not really. I mean, I'm pretty busy and all, and it would just be disruptive to my extremely packed calendar, and it's not like I've lusted meeting folks from method for freakin' ever, so well, uhm... HOLY CRAP YES! Oh my word! Is this a dream?!

Oh and B) See that part of the email that says "would you be available Thursday?" Well, I received this email Wednesday night... at 8 PM. Oh oh, and yes, I somehow MISSED that "next" in the "next week" portion of the email. So my hair stood on end, and I jumped to my feet, still dizzy at the whole prospect of what this email was offering me, and screamed "Tomorrow?!?" So I ran to the phone, trying to get a hold of Rachel, to let her know that HECK yes, it WAS ok to get together, and not miss this amazing opportunity! But she wasn't available! (What in the world? Isn't California like, five hours time difference?! Shouldn't they still be at work?! (Yes, yes. I know. No, Nathan, California is indeed, NOT five hours time difference. Did you actually even pay attention in school? I mean, really, ok? Sigh.) So I left a message... With Rachel, and oh, I think about three other folks at method (all voice mail, cause well, see that whole five hours thing.) And then I sent Rachel an email. And then I sent Rachel a Facebook message. And then I twittered Rachel. And then I launched smoke signals into the air to Rachel. And I hired a sky writer, and... Oh ok, maybe not those last three. But pretty much I gave her just enough ammunition to prove I was, indeed, a method stalker who would stop at nothing to meet them! Ha ha!

Oh oh, and this was during the Lost season finale! Ok, you KNOW what that says? Don't you? Because the quote I give to my friends is "Wednesday night, at 9 pm; if you are not dying, or body parts have not been removed from your person and you're in need of immediate 911 assistance, DO NOT call me. Cause I won't answer. CAUSE, it's LOST!" But for method, I was emailing, calling, and cleaning my house like MAD (What if they came over? What if they wanted to see the house that method cleans?! What in the world would happen if this house wasn't spotless! Clean, AND watch Lost at the same time! See what sacrifices I'll make for method! I just hope they don't need an organ anytime soon.)

Then later that evening I get an email saying "So sorry for the confusion!" (or the fact that I couldn't read her email correctly the first time around should have been what she really said.) But it's NEXT Wednesday. Cue huge sigh of relief. Drop omop to the floor, scream "NO, not Juliette!" and fall into bed. (Lost fans will get that one!)

So the big day arrived this past Thursday! Now, here's another email I received that really made me nervous. The paraphrased version was, I was to meet them at a nearby Lowe's at 5 PM, and they were concocting up a bit of a surprise for me; Oh, and would I be comfortable talking to a reporter? Sure, not a problem! A reporter... what?! A tv reporter? A newspaper reporter? (Believe it or not, I'm rather shy until I get to really know you well. Then, you can't get me to shut up. And you wish I were once more, shy. But alas...) I was really scared about this whole reporter business, as Rachel was determined to keep it a surprise!

So the big day arrived this past Thursday (oh wait, I already said that...) and I showed up at Lowe's; and two of my friends were also there to enjoy the experience, and take lots of great pics of the fun! And there standing in front of MY Lowe's (well, not really MINE, you know, I don't own it or anything. Wow, that would rock. I'd be rich! But you know what I mean.) was none other than Danny Seo and Rachel Goldberg!

Now let's pause here for a moment. We're talking Rachel Goldberg! Straight from San Francisco, and the method offices; plastic bag rehab totes at her side; standing there in all her beauty (seriously, I think it's safe to say that, since it's coming from a gay man! LOL She won't think I'm trying to throw her a pickup line! But she's beautiful! If you don't believe me, you'll see what I'm talking about, a few pics further down!) AND Danny Seo. Ok, uhm, Danny does segments on the Today Show. CBS This Morning. HGTV! He has multiple books discussing his eco way of living; a bedding line at JCPenney's; a Wholearth body care line that is being carried by Anthropologie! Uhm, he's got star power here (I like to think of him as the eco-Martha Stewart. I wonder if he'd find that offensive, or complimentary? Hopefully complimentary!), and they're taking time out to visit with ME? (Who spiked their coffee?! Psst - You did good, the check will be in the mail.)

So here they stand, with a newspaper/online reporter for our local paper the News & Record, Morgan Josey Glover. She writes for their gogreentriad.com (which I didn't even know existed! I've learned something new and great so I can now follow going green in my home town more easily!) Cool!) I felt SO much better now that I knew it wasn't a tv reporter (me and photos/video, GAH! We don't get along well at all. Uhm, you can tell by these photos here! Photogenic, I am not! And you're not even seeing the ones I DIDN'T put up here!) She asked me a multitude of questions pertaining to how method lust got it's start, the first method product I bought, my eco habits, what I was doing to help the environment, if I was clued into the green movement in my hometown (something that honestly, I haven't been following! But will begin doing so now!), and what my next eco-challenge might be? You can read the interview, AND win method goodies too! (The link is further down this post. Hold on, patience is a virtue, my lustful friends!)

Meanwhile, Rachel and Danny had gone into Lowe's to scope out the method section! We actually have a really great set up at our local Lowe's, two end caps (you can only see one in this pic) full of method products! Hmm, what were they up to?

Once the (painless) interview was finished, Rachel and Danny came out to take us inside, and we all stood around the method products! Now, (as far as I know) my local Lowe's had no clue what was going on, so I thought it was rather funny that as more photos got snapped, and method products got grabbed, more employees started roaming around us wondering what was going on!? Oh oh, but I'm getting ahead of myself... (no surprise there!)

So we all stood around the method end caps, and Danny started giving this oh so sweet speech about how he'd suggested at the method office that they go meet their #1 advocate (out of thousands!) and who would that be, and everyone at method yelled "Nathan!" Crazy, seriously! That's so freakin' nice! And because of that, they took a little side trip during their Charlotte Lowe's tour, JUST to meet me, and vice versa. They had no business plans in Greensboro! But drove an hour and a half out of their way for me! I was quite overwhelmed!

He continued "So since you mean a lot to us here at method, we wanted the opportunity to..." and then he stopped, and said "Wait, wait, it sounds like I'm about to give you a brand new car! That's not the case, sorry! This is a recession! No brand new car!" and everyone cracked up laughing! "But we're going to give you a shopping spree! A method shopping spree! No shopping carts, but whatever you can carry on your arms from these shelves, you can keep!" CRAZY! Freakin' crazy! I was so excited! I had no idea (and had literally, just two hours earlier, bought some aroma pill refills at Target. Yeah, I am that obsessed! But it was to make the house smell all pretty in case they stopped by! I knew they probably weren't going to, but you have to be ready for these things! Well, I do, cause, I'm nuts.)

BUT first, before I could start grabbin', just in case my newspaper interview hadn't been stressful enough, Rachel had me do another interview while she recorded it, for the method offices! She tells me it's for internal use only, but I'm not sure I believe her! (Joking!) I could never be a politician or uh, anything dealing with quick reponses to questions, because I'm the worse. I know on more than one question she could probably insert the sounds of crickets chirping to cover up my delaying as I pondered her questions! I'm not good at this stuff! I'm sure what I lacked in answers, I'll more than make up in crazy facial expressions! And then, once the interview was over (which included the question of "what one method product would you like to see them make? ANYTHING!" Whoa, that question is so wide open! I couldn't think, I started sweating, I was feeling light-headed! So I just ended up going with a rather pedestrian (but oh so honest) wider range of body care products! Toothpaste, shaving cream (I'm down to only four bottles! I lust this stuff!), deodorant, all of it!

...And then the grabbing began! Danny told me I needed to start with the big stuff first, and layer! Ha! So I first grabbed two big bottles of laundry detergent (I was going to go for the new squeaky green detergent. But the only big bottles of that which were available were in sweet water. I went "eh, sweet water." and Rachel said "oh, not a fan of sweet water?" and I said "not really, can I say that out loud?" Ha ha! And then, an omop! Come on, you gotta grab one of those!

From there on out, Danny went nuts! (Though he did mention at least once "Don't forget, we're in a recession!") I'd mention like, one bottle of lil' bowl blu, and he'd grab three! it was hard work getting this stuff to stack and stay. A couple items did the jump of death, but luckily they survived their fall!

Danny, what ARE you doing?! In the end, they were putting products on my belt loops, and in my shirt pocket, anywhere they could fit them! It was madness, and I was loving every minute of it! The list of products is insane! Ok, ready?

The final tally would be (if I can actually remember everything!) 1 omop, 3 bottles of lil' bowl blu, 2 large detergent bottles, 2 bottles of le scrub, 2 aroma pills (lavender + lemongrass), 1 lavender + lemongrass aroma stick set, 1 squeaky green free + clear wet dryer sheets (haven't tried the new ones!), 1 pink grapefruit all surface cleaner (haven't tried this scent before, either!), 1 lavender all surface cleaner, 2 daily shower spray refill bottles, 1 wood for good spray cleaner, 1 lavender hand wash refill bag, 1 best in glass spray bottle, 1 all floor one (cute name! I hadn't noticed they named their floor cleaner!) lemon ginger floor cleaner, 1 almond wood for good floor cleaner, 1 floor cleaner cloth, and 1 package of leather wipes! Whew! Oh my word! AND, if that wasn't enough, they brought along two Plastic Rehab Totes for me (and one for the news reporter, which was so sweet!) and my tote had some pink grapefruit dish cubes in the new pouch packaging (oh, and hey, method lust note here; these dish cube pouches are now showing up at your local Target stores!), a Danny Seo Simply Green Parties book, an empty hand wash bottle signed by both co-founders (so cool!), and a t-shirt! Madness!

See that facial expression? Here's where the weight of all those products was starting to take it's toll. Now mind you, I'll usually bend over backwards for anything! So Rachel was asking "Are you alright? Is it too heavy?" and I responded "No, NO. It's FINE." Which, if you knew me as my friends do, my voice had raised pitch to a high soprano, meaning I was totally lying. Darn that body language! But it was all fine, I survived! Danny grabbed around four or so items from the stack (luckily I didn't have to walk to the register carrying all this stuff!) and went "Wow, these are heavy!" and I said "Trust me, my arms agree! I won't be able to pick up my fork for dinner!" Cause not only were they so amazing and did all this wonderful stuff at Lowe's for me, but they took me out to dinner (at a restaurant of my choice), too!

So Danny started piling up the products in the check out lane, the cashier rang them all through, and then EVERYONE, Danny, Rachel, my two friends Crissy and Sam, and the reporter, Morgan, all whipped out their cameras to take a photo of the total on the register! At which time the cashier says "Uhm, so what IS going on here?" and they just simply stated "Oh, we're just letting Nathan buy as many method products as he wants." and she just went "Oh, ok." Ha ha! A hysterical plastic bag incident ensued, which I won't even get into; and off we went!

At that, we said our goodbyes to my two friends, and the wonderful Morgan for being part of the fun! And drove over to Lucky 32, this great local Southern kitchen restaurant here in Greensboro. I didn't want to take them to just some chain restaurant, but rather some place in Greensboro that they couldn't find anywhere else. It was delicious, from the sweet potato hushpuppies (man, they were like dessert!) to the black bean cakes, crab cakes, and potato cakes with smoked salmon. Yes, apparently we liked our fried "cakes"!

Danny mananged to snap this one photo of me inside the restaurant. I had my camera with me, but remember that shy thing, so I should have taken a pic of them, but didn't even think of it! I was too busy chatting them up about method (expect some great things coming this year! But trust me, that's ALL I got out of them! And I tried. I even told them I wouldn't post about whatever insider info. they told me (and therefore wouldn't have been able to share the news with all you lusters, sorry!) but they STILL stayed tighted lipped. Sigh!

Hopefully they had a great time as well! It was a long day for both of them, so again, taking the time out of their schedules to do this was just amazing. And I'll remember it forever! I hope I was witty and chatty enough at dinner, and they weren't bored to death. Ha ha! At the very end, as I gave them hugs goodbye, Rachel told me I definitely had to make a trip to San Francisco (I've never been there!) and if I did, we'd all get together and have dinner with the co-founders (hear that Adam and Eric! Get ready!) I swore to her I'd be seeing her again, and would definitely do that! I'm already saving up my pennies, and dreaming of all the fun we'll have!

+

And now, here's your chance to not only read the interview by Morgan Josey Glover over on gogreentriad.com, BUT win everything I snatched up! How freakin' cool is that! Hurry on over, the contest ends May 28, 2009!

Oh, and this pic? Why does everyone look so unhappy? Did Danny and I get into a yelling argument? Nah! I was just teasing and tormenting you guys! He's the greatest! I actually thought this photo was hysterical when I saw it, because I really don't know what was going on. I think my friend Sam just happened to capture all of us at some crazy moment "inbetween" and I thought all of our facial expressions and body language were too funny! So I just had to share it with you all!

Oh, and PS. Now everyone at method thinks my thing is to place my thumbs into my front pants pockets, cowboy style. For some crazy reason I picked this nervous habit up during this method fun, and in all of the photos, my freakin' thumbs are stuck into my pants pockets! I swear I never did this before, who knows?! Ah, what can you do... (therapy, Nathan, therapy.)

win stuff!

Update Hey lusters! Keep in mind this is NOT a method lust contest. So if you want to submit your entry, you'll need to click the link at the bottom of this post, and comment THERE (not here, unfortunately.) I've just noticed two readers did this, so I wanted to make sure the directions were understood. Good luck!

From method's people against dirty blog:

"One of the perks of being Method’s co-conspirator is that I get invited to fancy (and fun) events in New York City to help spread the Method gospel cheer. For the first year ever, TheDailyGreen.com held their Heart of Green Awards in the LEED-certified Hearst building in New York City (appropriate, since TheDailyGreen is owned by Hearst) and honored leading movers and shakers in the green space for innovating new ideas, trends and movements.

After grabbing the gift bag, I thought it would be fun to give away the prize-filled tote to a lucky Method blog reader. Inside the recycled tote (made from water bottles), you’ll find:

+ Method grapefruit hand wash. Yum!
+ An Ebay reusable water bottle.
+ Kiss my Face Creamy Face Cleanser
+ A copy of Esquire with Ben Affleck looking annoyed on the cover
+ Physicans Formula organic wear makeup
+ Sula nail polish
+ An organic chocolate bar
+ A 4-pack of Verterra biodegradable trays made from fallen palm leaves
+ An Ecoist recycled wrapper bracelet
+ Blue Q “This Economy Sucks” change purse.

To win, just click here to leave a comment on why you should win the prize filled tote. No need to be super creative: you can just say “I love it” and you’ll be eligible. Good luck!"

ho ho contest!

I said HO HO contest. Two Ho's ok. Come on people, let's get it together here!

Anyway, Danny Seo, method's green living expert, has a holiday contest going on, now until November 11th!

"Tis the season and Method is spreading holiday cheer by giving away a few Winter Berry Potpourri ornaments and our new limited edition bamboo Aroma Rings to one lucky Daily Danny reader.

The Potpouri ornaments are a modern and sweet-smelling way to add natural fragrance and scent to your holiday tree or just to hang in the window in your home. It features natural wood beads inside the ornament, which makes it biodegradable and a more natural choice for your home. I am actually thinking of hanging this from my rearview mirror to give a little holiday cheer to my car.

And for a limited time, check out the bamboo Aroma Rings for sale on methodhome.com. This delightfully modern air freshener will look cool in almost any home environment.

Okay, to win, leave a comment and tell me how you're planning to go green this holiday season. One lucky winner will receive a box of Method goodies (including the potpourri ornament and bamboo aroma ring). Be sure to leave a way that I can get in touch with you if you win!

Contest closes TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 11th. GOOD LUCK!"

Head on over, and enter! (And be sure to mention method lust sent you!)

into danny's vault

Ok, yeah, uhm, green living expert Danny Seo has the method vault to end method vaults! Well, at least when it comes to having lots of method! (Perhaps not old school vault items, like we lust discussing!)

Over on his blog he posts:

"...I work with Method cleaning products as a partner, so I have access to a plethora of product from them. So, here I keep a "mini store" of my favorite Method goodies and let people "shop" the store when they visit. I have a lot of editors from magazines who come to visit me, so I find this is a nice way of welcoming them to my home." (See pic above)

Word! Ok, now method treats me right! They're so wonderful, and sweet! But man, could you imagine if you had a "mini method store" in your utility closet, and your friends and family could pick up an item they might be interested in, here and there? My friends would freak! In fact, just the other day one of them told me I hadn't given them anything method in a while, and they were wondering why? I've given some of my friends spiced pear cleaning spray, and bloq body wash, a candle or aroma spray here or there, just to try and hook them in! Ha ha! Danny is LUCKY!

Also, be sure to head over to his site and read not only the rest of this article, but his piece on the Detox Chicago party he took part in.

personal detox!

Wow! You have GOT to run on over and check out this amazing opportunity Apartment Therapy is giving to one lucky reader!

"Does Your Chicago Home Need A Detox?

If so, then help is on the way - in the form of Danny Seo and Method. Are you ready to make the switch to earth friendly products to get your place really clean? Want to ditch the harsh detergents and discover some cool ways to live a bit lighter? How about learning how to do it from green-living expert Danny Seo, who will arrive at your home armed with a slew of cleaning products from Method? Well, AT has just that opportunity for one Chicago reader.

Danny Seo is coming to town as part of Method's big Chicago Detox event (9/15 - 10/12) and is hoping to visit the home of an Apartment Therapy reader to do a "detox". He'll show you (and us - we'll come along to cover it for the site) how to clean in a greener way and will leave behind a care package of Method products to help you keep up the good work afterwards.

We think it sounds fun (Danny is a great guy), educational (we can always go for some easy cleaning tips) and good for the earth (every little bit helps!) - if you agree, let us know!

Here are a few requirements:

+ We need your home to be located in Chicago - locals only for this opportunity, please.

+ We need you to be available for the "detox" on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 7th, to fit Danny's schedule - no exceptions, sorry.

To be considered for the opportunity, please send the following by email to janel@apartmenttherapy.com by Friday, 9/19.

+ a photo of your place
+ your name
+ location in town
+ confirmation that you are available on the afternoon of Tuesday, 10/7
+ a short message on why you'd love to do the detox with Danny

After we collect all the submissions, we'll make a final decision and notify the lucky "detox-ee". Thanks!

Good luck! Let me know if you try out for this! I'm so jealous! (One more exclamation point! There, all done.)

contest!

Contest, contest! Win method! Contest! Danny Seo, over on Daily Danny, has a contest going on right now! You can submit for your chance to win a method rehab tote!

"This time, I'm giving away a handful of my Plastic Bag Rehab tote bags. I designed these handy reusable tote bags with my friends at Method Products. I work with Method as their "co-conspirator" in our fight against dirty. And one dirty habit we can all break is using plastic bags when we shop.

So, I have a box of these totes and I'm going to give 3, 5, 8, 10, 15 (who knows??) winners a free tote bag.

Just tell me: What's your favorite Method product and why? Or, what's your dream eco-friendly cleaning product you wished Method created.

I promise: this is not some sneaky market research study. I just have a lot of totes to give away!"

Head on over and good luck!

OH, and what are some Daily Danny readers most requested "dream eco-friendly method products?" - Deodorant, shampoo, and conditioner. I guess our recent polls weren't too far off! Yay method lusters! Yay!

danny does it again

Pop on over to the people against dirty blog (method's very own!) to read the latest Danny Seo fun from method's detox New York!

"While we're in NYC at our pop-up-shop we've been throwing some VIP (very important parties) events in the night. Lucky for us, our co-conspirator Danny Seo has been giving us a helping hand in leading 4 eco-parties this week. Danny has been taking guests step-by-step through 2 simple eco-friendly craft projects. Want to make the same cool projects at home too?"

Click on over to the blog to get full instructions on making your very own painted plate, or turning an old tile into a cool coaster!

(Uh, I don't think the lady on the left liked her tile very much, what do you think?)

squeaky clean crafting idea

Danny Seo has a new post over on his blog, focusing on a great craft project taken from the method squeaky green book!

"Out in bookstores now is a guide to creating a healthier home from the founders of Method cleaning products. The book, Squeaky Green covers everything you need to know how to thoroughly and properly clean your home, top to bottom, in the most non-toxic way possible. I wrote the foreword to the book and threw in a couple of helpful tips here and there throughout. The next time you're at your local bookstore, take a look!

One of the craft projects that made the cut was this adorable bird feeder. If you shop at Costco, you can find the refill size for Method's popular hand soaps. The tear drop bottle is so iconic and beautiful, that I thought once all the hand soap is used up, why not recycle the container itself?

To make this bird feeder, all you have to do is cut out a hole in the front and back of the bottle. Then insert a plastic ring (this one is about 1 1/4" wide and I got it in the plumbing section of the hardware store). If you cut the hole slightly smaller than the ring, it should be snug and hold without the need for glue.

Use a large cork to plug the top and twist some wire around the "ribs" at the top so you can easily hang the feeder.

Fill with feed, insert branch and hang!

Sure, it's not the most squirrel-proof feeder out there, but I think it's rather adorable. And easy to make!"

Take note that at Costco stores, they carry the method hand soap refills in large teardrop bottles. (The same style bottles we see in Target, but uh, much larger. You can see them lined up against the window in the above photo.) These are the bottles Danny is mentioning when discussing this craft. (As the regular sized bottles would be too small for a bird feeder.) I've never seen these refill bottles in person, but I just might have to take a trip to Costco soon!
