keepin' it comin'!

Even more new (or perhaps, for one, newish!) goodies have popped up, method style! method luster Jeff let me know via email and the pic below that he just found method laundry detergent in water lily + aloe at his local Whole Foods! Whoa! That's an old school scent making a comeback, peeps! method used to have water lily + aloe detergent a long, long time ago! Looks like they were fond of the scent! Not sure if It's a Whole Foods exclusive, but you can also purchase it on method's online shop! (One thing I did notice is the lavender + cedar 50 load is now missing from their shop. I'm hoping they haven't discontinued it! I lust me some lavender + cedar! And the bigger, the better! The 25 load is still showing, though. So that's good news!)

Along with that, while roaming around in Earthfare this weekend (a store similar to Whole Foods, and Fresh Market, etc.) I stumbled upon method squirt and mop floor cleaner in ginger yuzu! I've never seen ginger yuzu scent in this product! Now, I know Whole Foods holds most of the exclusive ginger yuzu method products (spray cleaner, dish soap, etc.) so this may also be a part of that line, and Earthfare just happens to also carry it? (And, that's the only method item Earthfare carries!? method, get on this!) I asked why this was the case to the store manager, but he didn't really have much of an answer besides "shelf space" (sure didn't seem to keep Mrs. Meyers and Seventh Gen. from taking up a huge area of the shelves!) You can also purchase this floor cleaner on method's site, as well!

Yay! You know, I find this product interesting. method used to carry another similar dilutable product (since most people seem to be using this for floor care), and it came in a big bottle scented in french lavender and rosemary mint. I still have a couple bottles! Then they discontinued that item, and brought out the prediluted version for wood and all-surface floor care. And now the dilutable is back (sorta!)

Honestly, I'm a tad too lazy for the whole bucket and omop thing. That's why I lust me some squeeze and go. AND I think I've found a solution to my bucket problem (if I haven't, let's all just pretend I have, and keep me happy and oblivious, ok?) I take an old lemon ginger "all-floor-one" bottle that I've used up, and I wash it out; then I refill it with half dilutable cleaner, half water. Are those the exact measures? Eh, I'm not sure. But hey, it works for me. Then I have the ease of a squeeze and go bottle, and the inexpensive price of a dilutable cleaner! Win, win!

Ok... maybe I'll go read those exact measurements now... Oh bottle? Where are you bottle? There you are, my little bottle! Ohh, who's so limey and green! Oh yes, you are! Yes yes, you are. You little limey green thing you!

omop inside and out

You might recall my little omop incident last week, and how broken up I was about it all! I just ran around with half an omop, sweeping up the floor. But you know, it's just not the same as a whole omop, it's not as cool; and you might just look silly, without a handle and all. I'm just sayin', is the thing. So it was with great happiness the wonderful method folk (ok, well, ONE in particular, no? Yes! Yay!) sent me a gracious coupon for a replacement omop, which I could redeem at Target. Hmm, now if only I could find a Target somewhere by? WHERE ever might there be one? Oh wait, I'm in one as I type this.

No, I'm not REALLY. But that would be me, wouldn't it. Sigh...

So anyway, I was so excited! I mean, I'm excited because I can replace my sad little broken omop with a brand new one, even though it's still an omop. But I was still excited! Yes, I know, I haven't started my medication, I promise, real soon like. So I thought I'd do a little by the numbers photo op on the new bamboo packaging (with my continuing theme of sucky photos. Really, I mean, I go to food blogs and their photos are like works of art? What the crap is my problem? Huh.) Someone had mentioned in the past it was like opening an ipod, with all the cool packaging, folding back one section of the box and moving on to the next. And you know, they're sort of right! Check it out!

That is what you first see when you pop off the top! (Faux fur blanket not included with purchase! It's mine, hands off!) The floor cleaner and cloth sitting all nice and pretty. The compostable cloths, and a small booklet are included beneath the all floor cloth.

The little compartments the products sat in have sayings on the packaging. The cleaner says: "just squirt + mop. no water. no bucket." while the cloth compartment says: "people friendly. floor (and tube sock) friendly. planet friendly."

And TADA! Oh my, someone stole my omop! Man, I knew they were popular, but... Oh alright, so uh, I put the entire thing together in the truck while I was waiting in front of a pizza shop for my deliciously bad for you food to get all cooked up (I told you I was excited!) so I couldn't take a pic of the pieces in the box. Sigh... but here's where they'd be! They now have (slightly annoying, as they're really helpful, but take a tiny bit of work to remove. But that's just me whining) these stickers that tell you how to put it together easily. A, B, and C. (But cuter, they say A, B, C in a humorous way, something like A to B, B easy, B peasy, to C almost done, and such; but I took mine off, so uh, I forget exactly. Forgive me, ok!)

There you go, the omop show! Now, run out and get one for yourself! You know you want one!

squirt + mop + enjoy

We don't really talk about the method floor cleaners here much. Oh the omop gets a lot of attention, but poor little lemon ginger, it feels all left out. So how about a review! Yay lemon ginger, yay!

"I am a huge fan of the method line of cleaning products. When they came out with their Omop microfiber mop, I immediately bought the starter kit despite the fact that I already owned something like 7 other mops at the time. The starter kit came with the Omop, one microfiber mop pad, and a small bottle of Lemon Ginger All Floor Cleaner. While I do like method's mop, I think the best part of the starter kit is the floor cleaner. Anyone can use it as a "squirt and mop" cleaning product with all types of mops.

The Lemon Ginger All Floor Cleaner is yellow in color and comes in a 25 fluid ounce oval-shaped bottle. It's very easy to use. All you have to do is squirt it down onto the floor and mop it up with either a dampened Omop pad or another mop. It does an excellent job of lifting dirt from floors without leaving streaks or residue behind. My favorite thing about this product is the fabulous fragrance. It's a delightful combination of strong lemon and spicy ginger that leaves a room smelling fresh and clean for about 30 minutes after use, though I wouldn't mind if it lingered for at least an hour. (hint, hint method)

I paid about $5 for it at Target which is significantly more than your typical Mr. Clean-type products. Still, I love the fact that it's a "squirt and mop" cleanser and the fact that it smells soooooo good. I also rationalize my purchase by reminding myself that it's non-toxic, biodegradable, and it doesn't contribute to the evolution of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

method Lemon Ginger All Floor Cleaner is an excellent floor cleanser that blasts away dirt while still being kind to the Earth. I have been using it consistently for the past several months and I have no plans to switch to another product. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a powerful, non-toxic cleanser.

And while we're at it, how about a flashback review for method's french lavender floorcare (pre-omop!), which you might currently be able to find at your local Big Lots (I did! They have a bunch!)

"I'm a big fan of the method line of non-toxic earth-friendly products, so of course I had to try out the Method Floor Care product. With this manufacturer, you know that your cleaner won't contain harsh chemicals and that beautiful scent will linger after you're done. The biggest question I had before using the cleaner was simple: is it effective? The answer is mixed. Let me explain... The instructions on the package stated that I needed to dilute the cleaner by mixing 1/4 cup with 1 gallon of warm water. This would give me a "no-rinse" cleaning solution. Well, since I don't generally use a mop and bucket to clean my vinyl tile kitchen floors, that left me with a bit of a dilemma. I decided to dilute the solution and pour it into an empty squirt bottle. That way, I could just spritz the solution on the floor, and mop with my generic Swiffer-type mop. Since I'd diluted the product before I put it in the spray bottle, there was no need to rinse.

In general, I was pleased with how the formula cleaned through the dirt on my floors. However, some dried spots needed a bit more effort to scrub out the stain. As with other method products, the floor care cleaner is not as strong as some of the harsher cleaning agents I have replaced it with. But I believe it's well worth the extra physical effort it may take to scrub out an occasional spot.

The formula contains plant-derived ingredients and essential fragrance oils that provide the cleaning power. I believe so much in limiting my access to chemicals and helping out the environment while I do it. I feel strongly that the method line of home care products helps keep my family, my pet, and my environment healthier.

Right now I use the Rosemary Mint and Lavender "old school" floorcare I still have, and just mix it with water in my trial size lemon-ginger bottle you get when you purchase the omop, and it works great! Hmm, speaking of that bottle, my lid has a big crack in it, around the seal. I wonder if method would send me one of those bottles, empty of course? Cause I love using it (cause it's cool and method looking, over just a plain squeeze bottle.) Oh method?

Sigh... ok, do you see that pic above. I went nuts. NUTS. Want the whole story?

So yesterday I'd mentioned how someone let me know about method bloq being sold at their local Goodwill; and how I started running around for the lust of my life, green mint, to no avail; but also stopped at Big Lots to see if they had anything. And discovered some cut grass and fresh lychee aroma pill combo packs. Then someone mentioned they found discontinued candles as well at their local Big Lots. So I ended up checking two other stores, and discovered nothing more than a few fresh lychee pill refills.

But still aching over the fact this person had found the elusive fig candle (which I like, well, just drool uncontrollably over, mind you) I decided to head on over WAY to the other side of town, and see what that Big Lots held for me. I hadn't been there in forever, forever, and forever. I was sure it'd be just like the other store finds. And you know what...

...it was like a freakin' gold mine of method madness! Do you see what I found in the pic above? Huh? HUH? Do you know HOW much money I spent there? Do you know how the lady at the cash register just sort of stared at me wondering why I was buying like fifty dollars worth of cleaning and candle products?? Let's pause for a moment... yes, I said it. Fifty dollars. That's CAR-AZY! Like, I can't figure out how I'm literally going to afford to pay for gasoline for my guzzling truck for the rest of the month, but I suddenly decide to throw down fifty dollars on method discontinued products cause, well, I can't help myself! It's a sickness I tell you, a sickness! No one should get this excited over cleaning products! Really! The guy in the cleaning aisle that worked at Big Lots and was stocking finally had to walk off for a moment, as I just stood there in awe of everything and couldn't figure out what I was going to get and just wanted to scoop up everything and he realized I was about to destroy all his work of neatly placed items on the shelves and had to just leave me to my own devices!

And so let's do a rundown here, ok? Cause really I can't believe I found some of this stuff. We're talking yes, that is spiced pear all surface cleaner you see there. What the heck?! That stuff hasn't been around for a year and a half! I couldn't believe it! Along with the spiced pear candles I'd finally bought earlier in the day, I'm full up on some spiced pear lust! Then we have three lavender + lemongrass pill refills in their old packaging, and two lavender floorcare bottles! Lavender floorcare, from back in the old school method days! Yo, where did this stuff come from?! I can add this to my two bottles of rosemary mint floorcare I still have, and I'm floorcare covered until I'm 90 years old, I believe! (Cause this stuff lasts forever, because you have to dilute the earlier version with water.) Then we have one lavender + lemongrass candle, just cause they had a few for some weird reason; and then the skies lit open and the clouds parted and we're talking six freakin' fig candles here people! Six! And I wanted to buy more (they had a few more left!) but just could NOT afford it. I'm in figgy fig Heaven! Man!

So there you have it, I'm so freakin' poor it's scary. I think I need to start going to method anonymous meetings, but my house will sure smell pretty while all this is happening. So be sure to head over to your nearest Big Lots, cause someone (be it method or Big Lots) decided to clean out their method vaults and went crazy! Have fun, let me know what you find!

(Note: another method luster let me know he found some fig aroma ring refills for $2. So it's just all sorts of stuff! If I could find some fig aroma pill refills, well, let's just say they'd have to cart me away to the funny farm! Cause I'd be so excited! Oh, and by the way, this is just what I bought. They also had eucalyptus + mint, lavender + lemongrass and sweet water pill combo packs; sweet water pill refills, and eucalyptus + mint candles!)

vs! - orange glo vs. method floor cleaner

Ding, Ding! In this corner we have Orange Glo! And in this corner, method floor cleaner! Make it a clean fight, boys!

Using a dry mop I squirted the milky, orange-scented cleaner onto my floor and spread it out evenly. I follow the grain of the wood and I really do see a difference. It takes some scrubbing on some of the sticky parts of the kitchen floor but my floor really does shine and the orange scent thankfully isn't too strong. A day later my floor is still shiny even in the high traffic areas. The rooms I clean that barely see any foot traffic, like my dining room, stay shiny for up to a week. Fabulous! I was looking for a cleaner that was a bit more green though. Plus the solution does not squirt out of the bottle well. The spray goes wayward and hit a few walls despite pointing it nowhere near a wall. This left an oily stain on my wall which thankfully is being repainted soon. I also noticed that after a few uses my floor did not look shiny anymore but dull in fact and in a room with new hardwood this should not be the case... I am now throwing away my Orange Glo...

Method's Good for Wood Almond Floor Cleaner - I used this product first and found that while it takes some scrubbing to actually clean my floors it does work. It is not a fantastic floor cleaner like Murphy's Oil soap but the wood seems to drink it in and remain shiny and polished for a few days even in the high traffic areas. I love the light almond scent that lingers for a day leaving my home smelling clean and fresh. Just like the other cleaner, this one is a squirt and mop job. The oval shaped bottle doesn't drip cleaner out and it dries faster than the Orange Glo, which is great as my child constantly walks on the floor even as I clean it. Still, I didn't feel that it really cleaned the floors deeply, it simply takes a bit of the surface dirt off and maintains a pleasant shine. When I combine this product with Murphy's Oil soap hardwood cleaner it works beautifully, however that is a long process with me on my hands and knees for a while. I do not have time for this each week. The added bonus and the clincher for Method in my opinion, is that this is a non-toxic cleaner that will "put the hurt on the dirt and not on my home or family."

So which one did I go with? Method's Good for Wood floor cleaner wins out. There is no nasty build-up or residue left behind. My floors shine and really absorb this cleaner. It is good enough for those quick dry mop jobs and works fabulously when combined with a deep floor scrubbing. I'll stick with the Method and know that my floors will look great longer. The Orange Glo is already in the trash."
