sneaky (holiday) scents

peppermint vanilla (aka) candy cane (aka) sugared mint holiday hand wash
The holidays are officially upon us! And since we're all great method advocates, one of the best and easiest ways to celebrate the season is buy stocking up on method's holiday hand wash and dish soap scents! This year has brought us gingerbread and mistletoe foaming hand wash, along with frosted fir and sugared mint gel hand wash! (Psst - they're out now at your local Target stores, and online! What?! You didn't know! Well, get with it! It's ho ho ho time, after all!)

That last scent caught my eye immediately. Sugared mint? A) Mmm, that could be divine! But wait, B) it could be a ruse. Whatever do you mean, Nathan? Well, I hate to say it, but last year method brought us candy cane. Another scent I had high hopes for, before discovering it was simply peppermint vanilla given a shiny new name. Odd, I thought. Peppermint vanilla sold well on it's own, why the need to get sneaky santa on us?

So this year, I had my reservations. And one whiff of sugared mint did indeed cause my heart to sink. It's peppermint vanilla all over again, except with another shimmery holiday name?! What gives? Apparently method's starting a trend here where peppermint vanilla will be released each holiday, except under a new name. I don't recall them renaming any other scents past or present in this manner, so I have to admit I'm at a loss...

What's your thoughts on this? Is it sneaky? Or simply fun?

And what are your thoughts on the new gingerbread and mistletoe scents? Let method lust know in the comments!

+

PS - the bottle shrinkwrap designs for the frosted fir dish soap and hand wash are ah-mazing, method! Whoever did this design work should get a holiday bonus, pronto! Stylish, streamlined and bright! Exactly what method is all about!

perfection in package design (well, IMHO.) The colors, the patterns... ahh!

clean sweeps

A bit o' news here, a bit o' news there! It's a bit o' method news, everywhichwhere!

+ Some sad news. It looks like method is discontinuing their bathroom le scrub. I'm kinda shocked by this one, since there looks to be no update, or replacement on the horizon. Per method's Facebook page: "sorry to break the bad news, but yes, le scrub will be discontinued by the end of the year." Stock up now, before it's too late! Target has already put them on clearance.

+ I've seen a lot of complaints concerning two method products, and would like to hear your thoughts! Many users of the lemon verbena (or any of the anti-bac line of spray cleaners) find the updated formula scents to be way off, in fact, most say the lemon verbena smells like pee! Ouch! What have your experiences with these products been like? Do you like the new formula?

+ Complaint #2 happens to be over method's replacement for their lil bowl blu (in eucalyptus mint scent) to their new anti-bac toilet bowl cleaner (in spearmint scent.) I think most just don't like the new scent. It's another "what were you thinkin', method?" moment, since the rest of their bathroom line is in eucalyptus mint.

+ And a bit of great news, method has (pretty much) confirmed frosted fir is coming back, and will be one of their scent selections in hand wash for their holiday 2012 line! Pertaining to someone saying how much they lusted the scent, and wondering if it was still available, method replied: "it's great to hear you love frosted fir. it's a holiday scent, which means you might see it back on shelves in november. stay tuned."

+ Finally, I'm noticing most of the latest sneak peek announcements hitting Target shelves, from the Orla Kiely hand wash/dish soap/spray cleaner line (vanilla chai and pear ginger smell divine! Oddly enough, the bay leaf reminds me a lot of the spring sea salt + lime. Am I nuts?! Let me know!), to the spray fabric softener (which replaces their dryer sheets), as well as new smarty dish plus packets with rinse aids and extra cleaning power (for hard water, etc.) Have you picked any of these products up? What are your thoughts? Share in the comments!

sneak peek - 'for the season' hand washes

UPDATE +  Some people (including myself) seem to be having problems finding the new 'for the season' line of method hand washes. Well, method said yesterday on their Facebook page "...they will be available in most Target stores with expanded food selections (not necessarily 'Super' Targets). we'll have them online soon in case you can't find them in stores." Hmm... I don't know enough about how Target stores are set up, but I've always only noticed the regular stores (and we have three around me) and then the Super stores (with the really large grocery section.) Is there an "in-between" that might have an expanded food section? No clue. At any rate, I'm kinda disappointed with this, as these might be more difficult to find than I had thought. Good luck!

+

You know, I've said it before (and probably before that, but hey, I enjoy repeating myself. Do people enjoy listening to me repeat myself? Well, that's a whole other story...) But the thing is, no matter how much snooping and scooping and hunting and pecking and bribing and begging I do, there's always something method is gonna sneak past me! And so, here's a perfect example. Apparently people have just started finding new 'for the season' hand washes popping up on store shelves, with not a mention of such things on method lust?! For shame, Nathan, for shame. But honestly, I had no clue! - For reals!

The new hand washes are interesting. They aren't holiday/Christmas. But they don't really say they're a limited edition line, either. They definitely look holiday to me - bottles in bright reds, iridescent purples, a little berry twig on the packaging. But they're not. So let's just call them fall/winter limited edition and be done with it! They come in baked apple (which I hear has a kind of cidery apple scent to it, that could be amazing!), winter oak (some people say it's wow! Others say it smells like men's cologne, but I'm really excited to check this one out!) and toasted vanilla bean (which probably smells like it sounds. Possibly the least exciting of the three, but hey, everyone has a black sheep in the family, right? Joking, toasted vanilla bean, joking of course. You're special, too!) They are gel hand washes, though from the photo below it also looks like the toasted vanilla bean comes in foaming!

method luster Gary was ever so nice enough to send along some pics of the new bottles sitting on his Target store shelves! (I haven't found them yet at any of the three Targets near me, therefore I hope they realize I'll be stalking Target for a couple weeks until they appear! :) He also sent along a shot of some of method's new in-store displays (see above.) Have you seen these near you? Picked any of them up? Thoughts? And be sure to look for method's holiday line of hand wash and dish soap hitting shelves near the end of November!

ho ho heck yes!

There's lots of ways to keep up with method (twitter, Facebook, method lust, people against dirty blog, magazine articles, whew!) So even though I'm perfect (shh, keep your thoughts to yourself) there are times even I, yes I, miss something! It's difficult to believe (again, thoughts. yourself.) but it's true! So I wanted to say thank you to the anonymous method luster that let me know via comments, method has officially announced frosted fir is making a comeback this holiday 2011 season! Yes!

They had also previously teased that peppermint (in some form) would be part of the holiday scents! So I'd say be on the lookout for frosted fir and peppermint vanilla this year (unless method gets all sorts of crazy and gives us a new peppermint/mint scent! Guess we'll find out soon enough!) The other great thing is, method's holiday line seemed to hit really late last year. They appear to be correcting that this year, because October is the drop date for the holiday products to hit store shelves! So far I'd still say to expect only hand wash, but who knows, they might also surprise us with an expanded product line (and probably one more scent, as their holiday scents usually come in threes) as well! More news to come as I get the dirt!

method's got a nifty holiday contest happening this very moment over on their people against dirty blog! So clickity-click-click and see if you can guess 2 (out of 3) of the very first holiday method scents from 2003! (And no, the picture above is not the answer! Well, not completely, perhaps? Hmm...)

"You will be entered to win a holiday assorted bundle, valued at $26! One entry per person. Must be 18 to enter and be a US, Canadian or UK resident. Contest ends at 12pm on 11/29/09." - Good luck!

happy holidays from method lust

Alright, I'm outta here like Santa heading to Hawaii on December 26th! I mean, come on, after all the work he does Christmas Eve, he deserves a vacation! I'll be heading home for one week (please snow, please snow! Though I know some of you are already saying "enough snow!") and then I'll be back! Well, that's how these things sorta work, now isn't it?

I'm excited for method, and method lust in 2009! New challenges, new products (and I'm hearing whispers of possible scent choices like tangerine + ginger, seacress, and more! I'm all giddy!) and, I'm hoping, a fresh coat of paint here for method lust!

Happy Holidays to everyone! Thanks for rocking method lust! Without you, well, I'd pretty much be writing to myself. Ho ho ho! (And all that jazz!)

ho ho glow

Just in time for the holidays, cute pics of glowing method dish soap bottles, highlighted in festive red and green! What could be better than lots of iconic method dish soap bottles beneath your Christmas tree! Well, first they'd have to start making these bottles again... but we can always have sugar plum dreams of them floating around in our heads, can't we? (Hmm, sugar plum, that sounds like a great fragrance idea for holiday 2009! Ahem, hey, anyone listening? Ha ha!)

Speaking of the holidays, I love this quote from The Detroit News Welcome Mat:

"Forget the fruitcake. Give someone special, maybe even yourself, an affordable gift of a holiday-scented soy candle, $8, from Method. Scents include spiced pear, frosted fir, toasted hazelnut and winter berry, seen here. Find Method products at Target or go to www.methodhome.com."
