lustful surprises!

I have many friends that think I'm kinda crazy in the head. (Shh... silence is golden. And I don't need your opinion, too!) They're all "How can someone lust soap as much as you do? It's not right! It's not sane! It's soap!" They just don't get it. But sometimes, someone pops up that does get it. And gets me, too! That newest someone is method advocate Gary! You'll notice he's been helping out on many of the posts lately, sending me soapy intel whenever he finds or reads something method!

So how about this for a surprise! Today my boss hands me a small, kinda heavy envelope! What's this? I never get packages at work! Cause no one loves me, and no one wants to send me anything, cause I love packages, and opening packages, and throwing the peanuts into the air, and ripping open the tape, and squealing with joy at what could be inside! But no, no one ever sends me anything! It's all work, work, work at work! What's up with that?! Well, not today, mister (and ma'am!) So I'm all "huh?!" I rip it open, and what's inside... four tiny bottles. What do they say? "white tea with aloe vera, olive leaf with aloe vera, magnolia with aloe vera, and lime + sea salt hand wash." From Gary! Here's the short version of what he wrote in the letter that accompanied these bottles:

"...I thought the keeper of the blog should have some samples to sniff. How else are you going to give the people what they want - your honest assessment of whether the new scents deserve our cheers, or our jeers! Happy inhaling!"

Now how sweet is that! Different Targets will "launch" new products at different times (I think it has more to do with how quickly they reach the boxes in the warehouse, and actually put them out on the shelf!) And my Targets always seem slow! Gary has been lucky enough to find all the new goodies hitting the shelves in the last couple of weeks, and I was so excited to get an "in my hands" miniature sneak peek of these new products, until I can grab the full size version!

I gotta say, lime + sea salt might just become my favorite new scent! I lust it! Thanks, Gary!

first shots - lime + sea salt

method's new limited edition lime + sea salt line!

Wow! method luster Gary (who might be giving me a run for my money! Alright, dueling spray bottles at 12 noon, Gary! Cue the rolling dust bunnies across the wooden floor!) has found the new limited edition lime + sea salt method goodies at his local Target!

...well, found might be a tad incorrect. Rather, he didn't find them at the two Targets he visited, so he asked customer service, called the third Target, they went into the warehouse of the store and brought them out to him! They hadn't even hit store shelves yet! Wow, I might need to try that trick next time I head to Target!

So while you're waiting for the lime + sea salt fun to begin at your local store, check out the pics he took of his finds (thanks, Gary!) and you can read all the cute blurbs method put on the back of each bottle. Enjoy!

sneak peek - 'for the season' hand washes

UPDATE +  Some people (including myself) seem to be having problems finding the new 'for the season' line of method hand washes. Well, method said yesterday on their Facebook page "...they will be available in most Target stores with expanded food selections (not necessarily 'Super' Targets). we'll have them online soon in case you can't find them in stores." Hmm... I don't know enough about how Target stores are set up, but I've always only noticed the regular stores (and we have three around me) and then the Super stores (with the really large grocery section.) Is there an "in-between" that might have an expanded food section? No clue. At any rate, I'm kinda disappointed with this, as these might be more difficult to find than I had thought. Good luck!

+

You know, I've said it before (and probably before that, but hey, I enjoy repeating myself. Do people enjoy listening to me repeat myself? Well, that's a whole other story...) But the thing is, no matter how much snooping and scooping and hunting and pecking and bribing and begging I do, there's always something method is gonna sneak past me! And so, here's a perfect example. Apparently people have just started finding new 'for the season' hand washes popping up on store shelves, with not a mention of such things on method lust?! For shame, Nathan, for shame. But honestly, I had no clue! - For reals!

The new hand washes are interesting. They aren't holiday/Christmas. But they don't really say they're a limited edition line, either. They definitely look holiday to me - bottles in bright reds, iridescent purples, a little berry twig on the packaging. But they're not. So let's just call them fall/winter limited edition and be done with it! They come in baked apple (which I hear has a kind of cidery apple scent to it, that could be amazing!), winter oak (some people say it's wow! Others say it smells like men's cologne, but I'm really excited to check this one out!) and toasted vanilla bean (which probably smells like it sounds. Possibly the least exciting of the three, but hey, everyone has a black sheep in the family, right? Joking, toasted vanilla bean, joking of course. You're special, too!) They are gel hand washes, though from the photo below it also looks like the toasted vanilla bean comes in foaming!

method luster Gary was ever so nice enough to send along some pics of the new bottles sitting on his Target store shelves! (I haven't found them yet at any of the three Targets near me, therefore I hope they realize I'll be stalking Target for a couple weeks until they appear! :) He also sent along a shot of some of method's new in-store displays (see above.) Have you seen these near you? Picked any of them up? Thoughts? And be sure to look for method's holiday line of hand wash and dish soap hitting shelves near the end of November!

giveback - method lust

UPDATE +  Thanks to everyone who chipped in and donated to method lust's domain name renewal drive! Drinks all around! (Well, electronic fake interweb drinks, at least!) I so appreciate your help, and taking the time to read (and comment!) on method lust!

Current donations total:
$30.00 (two year renewal!)

Do you lust reading well, method lust? Enjoy the product reviews, the sneak peeks, all the green news and eco-challenges? Well, if you do, a) thank you! and b) I could use your help, and I promise it won't hurt a bit!

method lust's annual domain name renewal has come back around for another year! And believe it or not, I do this little blog all out of my sheer lust for all things method! It's true! But every once in a while I need my loverly readers help! If you could spare a buck, five dollars, fifty cents, fifteen dollars, a nickel, anything, it would really help me out with this domain name renewal bit! Fun fact: Did you know you have to actually pay for website addresses every year? And I kinda cherish my little methodlust.com!

It's $15. a year. If I get more, I'll purchase additional years (and then you won't have to hear me beg for a couple of years!) If I get less, I'll simply put whatever I get towards the renewal (and cover the remainder myself.) But anything will help, I promise.

I hate begging, so don't feel any obligation - but if you're so inclined, just click that donate button on the right side bar (it's yellow, and says donate! It'll take you to a PayPal page, it's safe and secure and ridiculously easy!), and a hearty thank you from one method luster, to another! Check back to see how the current donations total progresses each day!

quick questions

Hey lusters big, tall, lanky and small! I gotta quick question for you (hence, the post name, quick questions! I know, I know. But it's Monday, I thought you might need a little help!) I want to know how you get your method dirt!

How do you find all your method news, scoops, and gossip?
+ method lust
+ method's Facebook page
+ method's people against dirty blog
+ method's "methodtweet" Twitter page
+ method advocate emails

I appreciate you taking a moment and letting me know via the comments! And if you get your method news through multiple spots, list each one (Example: "I read about method on method lust, and their Facebook page!") Thanks, lusters!

sneak peek - fabric softener

Check it out! Look for method's fabric softener in brand new packaging, hitting store shelves now! I like it! Many advocates were regularly confused by the extremely similar packaging for the laundry detergent and fabric softener, so it looks like method heard our concerns and shook up the package design in order to make them more noticeably different. I like the nice, soft feel to the look of the bottle! Just like what the product is supposed to do!

Muchas gracias to method luster Jeff for taking and sending in this photo!

things that make you go...

Looks like method's lemon mint limited edition scent (currently available in dish soap and hand wash) might not be headed for method Heaven after all! A new post on method's Facebook page revealed:

Advocate: Dear method, please dont get rid of lemon mint dish soap. It is my favorite dish soap. It says on the bottle that it is limited edition. PLEASE DONT GET RID OF IT!

method: don't worry, it's not going anywhere. ;)

+

Hmm! Personally, I wasn't too impressed with lemon mint. method is doing themselves a huge injustice by not giving us lemongrass dish soap (to match their lemongrass kitchen hand wash. Hello, method, it's a no-brainer! And not just because I lust your lemongrass scent like crazy!)

Lemon mint vs. lemongrass? Your opinion?

washed up?

Quick question, method lust peeps! I've been hearing quite a few advocates mention the fact that method's marine naturals body wash has been disappearing from their store shelves, never to return. In fact, a couple people have even suggested Target has clearanced the item completely! So my question is, are you having trouble finding method's body wash in sea minerals, waterflower, or refresh mint scents? Or is your Target store still stocked and dandy? Let us know!

body 2 body

Here's another chance to be heard by method! Recently over on Facebook they asked what people liked/disliked/wanted to see from their body wash line (past and present.) Today they're asking more details about not only their marine naturals body wash line (which it seems many method advocates have begun to notice missing from their Target store shelves? I'm not sure what's up, my Targets are still plenty stocked, but it's something to keep in mind,) but also body care in general!

"Now a follow-up question: have you used our marine naturals body wash? tell us what you think. and if you're feeling inspired, let us know what else you'd like to see in body care from method."

As we all know, body care was something they tried out with body lotion, body wash, body bars, body scrub and shaving cream years ago. But then they decided to shelve most of the line, and the body wash was all that survived. Sounds like there might be new plans for expanding the line! So jump into the discussion over on their Facebook page, and give them your wants, desires and of course, lusts for a new method body care line! (Ooh, I get happy goosebumps just thinking of it!)

method rainbow!

How cute is this! A method hand wash rainbow, sent in by lusters Valerie and Chris! Valerie says "...My boyfriend has read every blog post of yours - and has even set up our method hand soaps to use by our mood, above the kitchen sink. Sometimes I ask myself if getting him into method was the right thing!" Love it! Thanks, Valerie and Chris!

rock star!

method's makin' a music video, and you can be a part of it! (You've always wanted to secretly be a rock star, right? Well, now's your chance!) Head on over to watch this video (it'll give you all the details - hurry, contest ends April 15th!) and you'll also get a $2 off coupon for their awesome laundry detergent, just for viewing the video! It can't get any better than that, can it? (And hey, while you're over on method's Facebook page, if you haven't (what?!) already signed method lust's official bring back method aircare petition, you can now! It's a three for one! video + coupon + petition = too much rockin' for one day! Whew. Take it easy. Sit down. Breathe deep.)

contest! - surprise, surprise!

The contest is over. But please add your name to the Facebook petition, if you haven't already done so! The winner will be announced soon!

+

Why can't you people just do as I say?! (I jest, I jest! Or wait, do I?) Alas, I cannot yet make people do my bidding through mind control, so until that capability is made possible, I'll just have to settle for blogs. And begging. And oh right, contests! Cause when you can't get someone to do what you want them to do, giving them something for their time will usually help things along! Hold on. Did I just say all that out loud? Will the very acknowledgement of my plan prevent method lusters from following through simply out of spite? Nah! It's a contest! Yay!

So here's the thing! You all aren't signing method lust's official "bring back method aircare" petition over on method's Facebook page. Oh sure, you have excuses! "I had to wash the dog!" "CSI was on!" (Really, CSI in some version is always on! That's not even a good excuse.) "My house caught fire and my laptop was inside!" (You couldn't have just ran in really fast and grabbed your laptop? I mean, you can always take more photos of loved ones, but aircare is gone! Gone, I tell you?!) Well, I won't hold it against you (yes I will) and instead I'm offering up a dandy deal! It's so easy a chimp can do it! Seriously, I tested my theory out - at the zoo. And Bananas passed with flying colors. Bananas is the chimp's name. No, I'm serious. Yes I am, stop looking at me that way.

All you gotta do is a) add your name to the comment section on this post. Then b) head on over to (let's all say it out loud) method lust's official "bring back method aircare" petition and add your plea for aircare's return! And that's it! (You know you want aircare back, right!) I matchy-match your name from method lust's comment section here with your post over on the petition, and one of you will win this contest! But you have to do both things, ok?

And that's it! Contest ends March 31, 2011, 12 AM EST! And the winner will be announced here! And just to tempt you even more, the winner will receive a super duper rare old school straight from my method vault product, in a scent you're nose has probably never had the chance to sniff! That's all I'm gonna say! But I just know the winner will lust it!

So hurry on up! Get to it! Or I'm gonna sic Bananas on you! (The monkey, not the fruit!? Remember, earlier in this post, from the zoo, oh argh...)

building a business with a social mission

method co-founder Eric Ryan has written a great article over on Fast Company. Check out an excerpt:

"After ten years in business and hundreds of innovations, we can still confidently say that our proudest achievement at method remains our first: launching a company with a social mission to do good in the world. It was the right thing to do for society and the planet, and we’ve proven that it’s the right thing to do for the bottom line too. The rapid expansion of media transparency is producing increasingly well-informed and discriminating consumers. Similarly, the influx of socially and environmentally conscious Gen Yers into the workforce is redefining the war for talent. These two shifts challenge most established businesses -- but they're also significant competitive advantages to mission-driven companies.

Having a purpose larger than profits has been key to our success. By contrast, most corporate values are just that--the values of the corporation. No matter how much ambition, camaraderie, and loyalty an employee brings to work, no one is taking those corporate values home to share with friends and family. But those same values become immeasurably more meaningful when they’re tied to a higher purpose.

It’s human nature to want to be a part of something bigger than oneself. But we're still amazed at how many cover letters we get that open with lines like, “My goal is to work for a values- and mission-driven business.” But working with purpose and values isn’t just a matter of individual growth; finding meaning in work is central to a strong corporate culture..."

You can read the entire piece here.

+

One item of product interest I took from the article was this line "...I was in Detroit looking at how the urban art movement could be supported by our upcoming Design Series product." Hmm! Looks like method is heading into design series packaging (seen on other products that take a specific design, art style or artist(s), and have their designs/art placed on the packaging.) Should be interesting and exciting! But wait, why haven't I gotten a call? (wink!)

dish soap lustin'

Lust the video! So cute! Two things: 1) the cap actually does come off the "leaf" shaped method dish soap bottle (it just takes a little more elbow grease); and b) look for dish soap refills to hit store shelves this spring! Yay!

(Cue camera shot looking down on Nathan as he stares up at the sky. Camera pans away slowly as Nathan shakes his fists angrily in the air while yelling "Sea minerals! You are the new sweet water!")

...and speaking of a better sponge (she has some great suggestions!) I just found these (new?) Scotch Brite natural sponges at my local Target. I hadn't seen them before, but apparently the scrubbers and sponges are made from 100% natural fibers (50% natural agave plant fibers); while the soap pads are made from 100% recycled plastic. Therefore you can compost the scrubbers and sponges (at least that's what their website says,) along with some other nifty info. You can find out more about these products here.

Now I'm not about to claim these are some amazing earth friendly sponges, but I've used Scotch Brite sponges for a while now (hey, I'm not perfect, as much as everyone thinks I may be - right, right?) and I was happy to find a more natural, eco-friendly version. And they're all beige colored! I love my beige. My entire house is beige, brown, and tan. LOL with the occasional pop of orange or grey blue. I know, I know. But I love my beige. Leave me be.

petition, please!

Oh dear! method's gonna either lust my enthusiasm, or wanna beat me over the head with an eco-friendly sustainable forest derived stick for this one. But sometimes you just gotta do what'cha gotta do, ya know? So here goes!

Remember when ole' method discontinued their aircare line early last year? We all sniffed and whined and begged and pleaded and well, ok, most of us just sniiffed and whined. But the time has come for begging and pleading!

Every day I notice someone posting on method's Facebook page "where did aircare go?" (Hey, do they live under a rock? Don't they read method lust?! Aren't they as obsessed as I am with method products and stalk the Target store shelves each and every time they go shopping, and shouldn't they have noticed the aircare was gone like, last March? No, well, ok, so maybe everyone isn't as obsessed as I am! Well, I just call it lack of initiative! Ha!)

So (are you still with me, how many readers do I lose with my rambling rants? Hmm?!) I've decided it was time for an official "bring back method aircare" petition! On method's discussion board Facebook page! This is all you have to do! Head on over to the discussion board page, and add your post to the list! Just a little "one more advocate begging for aircare to come back!" or a "pretty please, more aircare would be the bee's knees!" and that's it! The more posts we get on our "official petition" the more method just might listen to us advocates, and the better our chances are of getting aircare back! It might be the old school aircare, it might be brand new aircare (and even more environmentally-friendly!) But no matter, we'd just lust it's return! Our stuffy homes are begging for some wonderous mingling method scents wafting in the air!

So get to it, go sign the petition today (don't post in the comments section here! Well, I mean, please feel free to do so, but also make sure you go sign officially on their Facebook thread!) Thanks!

eight hour day

First off, is anyone out there? You've all been really, really quiet! Am I writing to myself (it's quite possible, and I wouldn't be surprised! Ha ha!)

Check out these wonderful photos of the method offices from Eight Hour Day (a design & illustration company.) The couple had a chance to stop by method recently (something I certainly hope I get the chance to do one day,) and they snapped some shots while they were visiting! Enjoy! the dish

Recently over on method's Facebook page, an advocate posted the following:

"I've been using Method now for over a year and I love, love, love your products. But I must say - you need to re-think your dish detergent bottle. When your hands are wet - it's hard to hold on too. I've dropped that bottle [thank god it's plastic] so many times. I got tired and switched to Greenworks. If you remake the bottle I would gladly switch back..."

to which method replied:

"Hey carolyn, we hear you loud and clear. keep you eyes open come fall, we think you'll be pleasantly surprised!"

+

Sounds like we're getting a new dish soap bottle! (In fact, while it's all extremely vague at the moment, I believe this fall we'll be getting more than just a new dish soap bottle for the kitchen! Tease, tease.)

What do you think? Like the current bottle, have the same issues? Some people have suggested taking the new laundry "lighthouse" bottle, and using that design for the dish soap. What do you think? I mean, sure, I've dropped the bottle a time or two, but it really hasn't bothered me as much as it seems to do other method users. What's your experience?
