yay, nay, what'chu say?

Spring has sprung! That's all. It really had nothing to do with this post, I just wanted to make sure everyone knew it was spring time now. Ok? Glad we got that out of the way.

And with that said, so, so, what do you think? We've all had plenty of time to try out some of our possibly new favorite method goodies! Antibac toilet cleaner in spearmint scent, anyone? How about some limited edition hand wash in watermelon patch, coconut grove, and daffodil bouqet? Oh, oh, I know, you're more a lime + sea salt kinda guy or gal? Or just maybe you can't get enough of the new magnolia, olive leaf, and or (hey, why not all three!) white tea moisturizing body wash?

Well, whatever it may be, tell us in the comments what new method products you're lusting? What have you been using? Does it get a yay, or a nay? And with that, I have one more thing to say. Summer is in two and a half-ish months. - That is all.

one man review - holiday 2011

Image via methodhome.com

Ho, ho, ho and a bottle of rum! Wait, what? That isn't a holiday song, but rather a pirates tune? And it starts out Yo, ho, ho? Really? Wow. I never knew that! Well, let me just say, some families would enjoy my version much better during the holiday season! (Hey, you know it's true.)

So anyway, enough about liquor and the holidays! How about some reviews! Believe it or not, it's been quite a while since I've done a one man review here on method lust! So in honor of the Christmas holiday season officially starting (hey, Thanksgiving is over buddy, get with the program! ) from here on out, this season is all about Santa Claus and ho-ho-ho, and mistletoe and presents to pret-ty girls! First up, method's 'tis the season' line of hand washes (only available online, and at Target stores with a grocery/fresh produce section:)

baked apple, toasted vanilla bean and winter oak hand washes

baked apple (gel and foaming hand wash) +  So I really didn't want to start off on a Scroogey note, but well, bah humbug! I had such high hopes for the baked apple. Another reader mentioned they thought it smelled a little like apple cider. That got me to thinking, could this be method's apple version of their spiced pear? All apples and cinnamon and clove and rich spices! That sounds like a baked apple to me! So the scent, well, I'll let my conversation with my boyfriend speak for itself:

me: "Here, smell this. Do you think it smells like baked apples? What does it smell like to you?"

the boyfriend: sniff - "Hmm, I don't know what it smells like, but it doesn't smell good, that's for sure."

me: "Yeah, unfortunately, I agree."

I couldn't even get an apple scent out of it. It was sorta some weird mish mash of vanilla and some kinda spice buried deep down and it was just... uninspiring. I couldn't even bring myself to buy and try a bottle, it was so disappointing. Sad face. The concept was great, the result was less than successful.

But, just to prove I'm not a total Scrooge, apparently there are baked apple lusters out there, via method's Facebook page:

"...I love love love the holiday edition baked apple hand wash! I just opened it and am totally in love with this scent."

toasted vanilla bean (gel and foaming hand wash) +  Our second review, well, it's kinda like the first one. I know, I know. method is never gonna bring me no figgy pudding at this point! (wink!) So how about another boyfriend conversation moment:

me: "What do you think of this? It's called toasted vanilla bean."

the boyfriend: sniff - "Wow. Uh, why does their holiday hand wash smell like suntan lotion?"

Agreed, hon, agreed! Perhaps that's the "toasted" portion of the scent, but it sincerely smells like coconut suntan lotion. In fact, I love that scent (it's crazy, I know!) So I was tempted to pick it up simply for that reason (having nothing to do with the fact that it's supposed to be a fall/winter scent) but started thinking about the new coconut grove hand wash that will be out in the spring, and decided to wait. Plus, I'm uh, trying to find holiday scents here, ya know?

+

winter oak (gel and foaming hand wash) +  Man, it looks like method's 'tis the season' line is a total bust! I mean, so far, nada. I should just pack my sleigh and move on, nothing to see here. Oh and whoa Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen (Rudolph was sick at home with a stuffy nose!) What do we have here? Why it's winter oak! Now, this is how method does it right! It's a very unique scent, kinda woodsy, kinda cologne/perfumey, kinda sweet, smoky, just nice! Perfect! Listen up method, these are the kind of scents we lusters expect from you! Something original, special, and oh so method! Perfect for the fall/winter months! Mmm. I snapped up a bottle quicker than you could say "dash away, dash away, dash away all!" (I know, I'm sorry. But trust me the holiday bits are far from over!)

PS - the boyfriend lusted winter oak, too, and even picked himself up a bottle!

And now on to method's holiday line:

frosted fir and candy cane hand washes

frosted fir (gel hand wash) + There is nothing I can ever say bad about frosted fir. It's Christmas tree Heaven! Returning for only it's second time around (for shame!) it's just an amazing scent, I lust, lust, super über-lust it! It is the scent of the holidays to me! method fans praise the hollyberry scent, but I personally think frosted fir is the best of the two! And this year it's also in dish soap?! method, I could give you a kiss! Just go stand under the mistletoe, ok? Now close your eyes! And pucker up...

5 out of 5 glasses of eggnog

+

candy cane (gel hand wash) + Wow! Just wow! I can't believe it, after years and years and years and well, you get the point of peppermint vanilla (which I think is just eh. Way too much vanilla, not enough peppermint!) method finally gives us a pure mint scent! I mean, it's called candy cane! How can it not be the peppermintiest! I can't wait! Yippee! To the sink I go, scrub scrub scrub my hands with new candy cane, mmm, mmm, mmm, it's so... wait. This smells exactly like peppermint vanilla. E to the x to the actly. What in the world is going on here? Why would method give us the exact same scent under the guise of a new name? This is so... cue Christmas crying face (you know, the face children give you when they don't get what they thought they were gonna get for Christmas!) So much potential. Down the drain.

Peppermint vanilla fans will lust it like crazy. The rest of us, not so much. Enough with the vanilla, method. Make 2012 vanilla free!

PS - Candy cane scent is also available in dish soap for the holiday season.

3 out of 5 hard candy Christmases + (1 out of 5 hard candy Christmases for giving us an old scent with a new name)

+

And finally, foaming holiday hand wash:

cinnamon drop and spiced pear hand washes

cinnamon drop (foaming hand wash) + This is a very true cinnamon candy scent! If you lust cinnamon drops, you'll lust this foaming hand wash! It's not very creative, or unique, but it's nice! I wish it were available in gel, as well.

3.5 out of 5 glasses of eggnog

+

spiced pear (foaming hand wash) + Oh man, why isn't this available in gel this year? Sniff. Spiced pear is a method classic. And unfortunately, I'm not sure method realizes this. It's a perfect fall/winter/holiday scent. But it comes around so rarely, and that's a shame. Pear mingled with all sorts of wintery spices. Seriously amazing. This should show up in stockings and on store shelves at least every other year, if I had my way (in gel, please! I just can't get my brain wrapped around foaming hand wash. I know, there are method fans for both sides! Fighting it out Snow Miser and Heat Miser style!) I just lust spiced pear scent to ribbon candy pieces! (Even the tiny candy shards that jab the roof of your mouth! Ouch! Whatever, I still lust you!)

5 out of 5 glasses of eggnog

+

And there you have it! method lust's 2011 holiday hand wash one man review (with a little help from my wonderful boyfriend!)  I realize scents (and our lust + hate dislike (mama said you should never hate nothing) for them) are a very personal thing - so, have you sledrided (is that even a word? No, no, it's not. But we'll use it anyway, cause I love annoying my 8th grade English teacher) down to your local Target (or gone online) and purchased any of these method holiday goodies? If so, what do you think? Do you agree or disagree with my reviews? What are your holiday lusts?

And with that... I heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight, "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good method night!"

seal of approval!

I'm not sure if method's new laundry detergent will be carrying the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval any time soon, but those Good Housekeeping people sure are lovin' the new detergent! Here's what they have to say:

"method Laundry Detergent Pump Review by Carolyn Forte

By now, you've probably noticed a new, kind of out-of-the-ordinary detergent bottle in the laundry aisle of your favorite store. Slim, compact, and topped with a handy pump, Method's new 8x concentrated laundry detergent is making conventional detergent bottles look well, obsolete.

Say goodbye to messy pouring and accidental spills. And remember my advice about overusing detergent? With this new design there's no more looking for that virtually invisible line inside the cap. Simply pump in what you need; 2 squirts for a small load, 4 for medium, and 6 for large. Got a stain? Pump a little directly on it, too.

I've been using it at home, and simply love the convenience (and the neatness). Of course, being GHRI, we had to test its ability to remove stains, and we were impressed. The plant-based formula completely erased grass, egg, even ink from our cotton test swatches.

Suitable for both traditional and HE machines, the detergent comes in two scents, Fresh Air and Peony Blossom, and Free + Clear for those who prefer no scent at all.

Kudos to Method for thinking "out of the jug"!"

+

Pretty awesome, no? So what has your experience with method's new laundry pump detergent been? Love it? Hate it? Love it a little bit - sorta how you feel about olives? Hate it but secretly love it but you're passive aggressive so you pretend to hate it while really loving it and hoping one day it'll come around to realizing you really love it and are just pretending to hate it? (Oh wait, or was that me and my last boyfriend? I get everything so confused sometimes...) Comment away!

video review! - aroma ring

+

Mmm! In one of my FAVORITEST scents, spiced pear! You know, on occasion I'll give out a method goody or two to a friend, and for a bit there it was spiced pear spray cleaner! Everyone lusted it! So one friend of mine, John, finally told me recently "Oh my, I've about completely ran out of that spiced pear spray! Get me another bottle!" - because the one thing I HAVEN'T trained most of my friends to do yet is BUY method for themselves (they just want it free, word!?) And I told him "Oh, John. That scent was only a holiday scent. It appears but once every three years or so!" And he was so very disappointed!

So in a moment of sheer kindness (cause really, I can be stingy and greedy with my method! Ha ha!) I slipped a bottle from my method vault, and gave it to him (from my secret stash purchased last holiday! I hope spiced pear comes back around real soon!) He was so happy! I told him "Use it sparingly! That's your last bottle until the next holiday it pops up again!" LOL Who knew cleaning supplies would become rare collectables you hoarded. Or uh, is that just me? I figured as much...

advocate review - smarty dish!

"I’ve tried every brand of dishwasher detergent; it’s an expensive way to find out just how poorly it cleans your dishes. Many traditional powder detergents tend to leave a weird film on my drinking glasses and can’t seem to banish dried on food that are stuck on plates. Liquid dishwasher detergents don’t seem to do the job either. As I’m phasing out toxic cleaners in our home, I’ve struggled to find the dishwasher detergent that is eco-friendly and can clean our dishes without having to rinse and scrub them before going into the washer. Am I asking too much for our dishes to come out sparkling clean from the dishwasher?

I am happy to say that I’ve discovered my new favorite cleaning product this week. method’s Smarty Dish dishwasher detergent is, hands down the best dishwasher detergent to date. I barely and rarely have to scrub the plates and waste water before putting dishes into the dishwasher. I’ve tried both the pink grapefruit - gives off a subtle hint of grapefruit - and the Go Naked zero dyes and perfumes versions - both clean equally well.

Product ingredients include: mineral cleaning salts, naturally derived and non-toxic anti-spotting agents, surfactant starch, protein cleaning enzymes, cellulose-derived coating and binder, algae-derived dispersing agent. Okay, I’ll admit these ingredients sound vague. What exactly are these naturally derived, non-toxic anti-spotting agents? Are they derived from plants? I need to know! I looked on the website and still did not find a clear answer. The website boasts of using fruit, plants, flowers and herbs and other ingredients “derived natural materials like soy, coconut and palm oils.” I just want them to be more specific. I’m going to contact the company and find out more about these ambiguous ingredients.

The brainchild of Adam Lowry and Eric Ryan, method products are “made by and for people against dirty” with the simple notion of providing safe, eco-, human- and pet-friendly products. Packaging is made primarily of recycled materials. Lowry and Ryan hired designer Joshua Handy to create recylable plastic forms that look like functional art. method products definitely stand out on store shelves. Their marketing is fun, up-beat and always humorous - you can always depend on smiling when picking up any product from method.

Smarty Dish certainly fights dirt with a vengeance and it’s exciting to know that method is on its way to becoming a household name. Spread the word."

double detox

method lust reader Stephanie sent me an email, telling me all about her exciting method Chicago detox party! And it just happens, her roommate Arriane also blogged about it! So it's a two for one detox party review! Enjoy!

Stephanie over on adventures in babywearing says:

"So, way back when I was at BlogHer in San Francisco and (I can't remember if it was before or after the naked man in the hallway incident) I got an email from Brand About Town asking if I'd be interested in being a Method Maven- where I'd host a party in Chicago to encourage our friends to detox their homes and do some fun eco-friendly activities. My roomates Amy & Arianne also got the email, and we squealed since we love Method -who doesn't?- and found out that the Brand About Town girls were staying in the suite directly across the hall from us with Alpha+Mom.

We walked right on over (I think I was in my pajamas and barefoot) and made ourselves friendly and ate their yummy cupcakes and then headed back over there for breakfast the next morning. During all this it was decided that all three of us should host one big Method party together.

Eco-expert Danny Seo was the master of ceremonies (that night his episode as a guest judge on Bravo's Top Design also aired!) and among a backdrop of amazing Method products, fun craftiness, and delicious finger foods, we partied like we were in our own home. But with no clean up. It was fabulous.

And stay with me here- there just might be a great big Method giveaway at the end.

Danny was quite patient with us gabby guests and led us through a little eco-friendly crafting from his Simply Green Parties book- we made ugly plates fabulous using an old dish from home, a yard sale, or thrift store.

(And see that dish he's holding in the photo above? I have that very plate signed by Danny to give away, too.)

Ivy (Stephanie's new baby) enjoyed her first party, and we're sorry you couldn't join us! We thought it would be fun in her honor to give away the Method Baby line!

Win! I've got the Method Baby Squeaky Green body lotion, bubbly bath, hair & body wash, & diaper cream to giveaway. All in a signed Danny Seo-created Method Plastic Bag Rehab market tote!

To enter, just leave a comment here telling me your favorite Method product. I'll choose one winner at random sometime after Tuesday October 21, 11:59pm. If you don't feel comfortable leaving your email address, the winner will also be posted at Prizey Winners. Open to US residents only.

And stay tuned- I'll tell you how you can win Danny's fun dish from the party!"

+

Her roommate Arianne from To Think is to Create had her own thoughts on the fun festivities (and her own contest!):

"A couple nights ago I had the privilege of being one of three hostesses for a fabulous Method Maven party downtown in Chicago. We’ve been planning on the party for weeks, however our lovely sponsors required nothing of us except for a guest list.

I’m already a big fan of Method, having raved about them at Mama Speaks, but to be called a Method Maven? Well, I was beyond giddy.

After Steph and I drove downtown with our respective mothers (and of course Princess Ivy), we arrived a bit early and partook in the tom foolery of a free photo booth. We took pictures with Method products, made crazy faces, and generally made goofs of ourselves. That was when my addiction set it, and throughout the night I’d re-visit the booth a total of NINE times. I could not get enough, people. What can I say? It had great lighting and only cost me my reputation as a serious professional. A bargain, I say.

Throughout the night, almost all of my favorite local Chicago-land area ladies showed up and we enjoyed gourmet food, plenty of wine and best of all–crafting with one of my favorite people around, Danny Seo. He’s a famous eco chic designer (you may have seen him as the guest judge on this week’s Top Design on Bravo) and an environmental lifestyle expert, and gave us a tutorial on how to create fun designs and re-glaze old recycled plates. He was also very sassy, which I loved:

We crafted, we drank, we explored all the gorgeous Method products, and we laughed over and over again. The Method store is a pop up shop, only open for a month in Chicago while they held these parties. It was stocked with all the products we know and love, while the entire back of the store was a mid-century modern dwelling that I was wishing I didn’t have to ever leave. The staff were friendly and stayed out of our way (which is a must) and not once did anyone try to sell us anything. No presentations on products, no suggestions of purchases, and in fact the only time they talked to us about the products was when they were telling everyone about the huge goody bag full of products we were each getting to take home.

It was a fabulous evening, one I really needed, and I want to thank Method and Brand About Town for putting this shindig on!

But that’s not all…

Method gave the Mavens something so that all of you can take part in the fun too. I have a big bag of goodies to giveaway! One winner will receive the the entire bath line (all 5 items) and a stylish Method reusable bag to carry with you everywhere. The Lil Bowl Blu alone is enough to make this giveaway rock my socks. It’s bananas.

There are a few ways to enter, and you can increase your chances by doing all three!

1. Comment on this post telling me your favorite Method product and favorite scent. Mine’s the baby bubble bath and cucumber.

2. Get two additional entries by tweeting about this contest (make sure to comment with your tweet!)

3. Get three additional entries by grabbing my blog button on the right and putting it on your site/blog (again, let me know you did it).

So yeah, you can get a total of SIX entries by doing all three things. Cool, right?

Contest ends on Wednesday October 15th at 11:59pm. Winner chosen at random. Good luck! (Fudge, I just realized the contest ends tonight! So get to entering!)

+

As usual, I'm horribly jealous of all the fun! What I wouldn't give to get to go to one of these parties! (Were there enough "to"s in that sentence?) Ah, so much fantastical fun! Well, lusters, get to signing up for some great contests! And if you've had a detox party, send me the details/email/blog link, and photos and I'll post them here on method lust! Thanks!

advocate review

method lust received an email from reader (and regular contributor!) Netta this week, sending us some reviews of products she's recently been trying. Netta doesn't mince words, let me tell you!

Netta says: "In August I decided that I would try some Method products that I have never used before and let you know how they turned out for me, so here goes..."

+ Ginger Yuzu gel hand wash - love, love, love it. The scent is very nice and soothing. I read some reviews about this scent and a lot of people did not like it some even said that it smelled like rotten fruit. It was very nice to my nose.

+ Grapefruit dish soap, gel hand wash, and surface spray - I have mixed reviews about this line. I did not like the surface spray, it does not smell anything like a grapefruit so I will not purchase that product again. The dish soap was ok, not as "grapefruity" as I thought it would be but cleaned my dishes. I did like the grapefruit gel hand wash. It smelled very citrusy and smelled like a grapefruit and the scent is very light and pleasant.

+ Cucumber dish soap, surface spray, and gel hand wash - This particular scent I had to order online because it is very hard to find in stores and I must say that I absolutely love this scent. The scent is light and is strong and pleasant enough that when I use the products in my kitchen it fills the air and floats into my dining and living rooms and even my powder room. I actually use the cucumber surface spray in my powder room and love the fragrance I get when I open the door. I use it right before I expect company and when they use the bathroom they always want to know the fragrance. This is definitely a winner for me and I never had a favorite method scent before because everything smells so good but I think that this is it.

+ Sweetwater gel hand wash - I do not like this scent at all. It does nothing for me. I have this hand wash in my powder room and when I wash my hands I end up in my kitchen washing it again with my cucumber hand wash. It is now in the basement (my husband's man cave) bathroom. My husband and his friends will use it without a complaint.

+ Squeaky Green Laundry detergent and dryer sheets - It comes in the sweetwater scent that I cannot stand. I tried it and it did a wonderful job on my clothes but I just can't take that sweetwater scent. I gave it away to my girlfriend who will use anything with the method name on it.

+ Method kid body wash in Crisp Apple - I like the way this fills my bathroom with the apple scent. It goes on very light and smooth and I even use it to shave. I think its fun and refreshing. My god daughter loves it.

+ Pomegranate Tea Plug In - I can't explain how much I love this scent. I have a 3 level home with a bathroom on each floor and I have this plug in in all three bathrooms. No matter where I am in my home I can smell the pomegranate tea. I use vanilla apple plug ins in the other rooms of my home and I swear that both scents are trying to out do each other. I think they smell wonderful as a combination though. Method should consider keeping this scent around.

+

Thanks, Netta! I'm surprised the cucumber scent is so hard to find at your Target? That's one of method's four core scents (cucumber, pink grapefruit, lavender, and go naked (ok, so go naked isn't REALLY a scent, but you know...) and they're easily available at all the Targets I go to. Have you checked every aisle? In the Targets that don't have the special method section, they have these mixed in with all the cleaners.

And who else thinks pomegranate tea should stick around? I LUST it! I (personally, I know, some readers will hate me for saying this) think this scent is a much better choice for permanent residence in the aircare line, over the citrus cilantro scent they chose from the spring edition line, to replace eucalyptus mint. JUST my opinion, folks. We all got'em. (Please don't hate me, I need friends!)

If you have a product review you'd love to have on method lust, send it to me! Pronto! (Or whenever you get around to it, I'm not pushy!)

one man review - marine naturals hand wash

Continuing my (partial) week of new product reviews, last time I focused on the new marine naturals body wash line! I thought the body wash worked great, while the new refresh mint scent didn't hold up to the old green mint bloq scent, and didn't linger on your freshly cleaned body after a shower, again, unlike the green mint.

So this review is going to hit the hand wash portion of their new marine naturals line. method has started this thing where, when they release a body wash scent, they tend to also release a matching hand wash scent to go along with it. And that is what they've done here, with sea minerals, waterflower, and refresh mint.

Ok, here's where Nathan loses it? Are you ready? (You knew it was going to happen sooner or later, right?) I received a hefty trial of the foaming hand wash in refresh mint. (Speaking of trials and samples, I recall Colleen mentioning that samples for the new products would be rolling out! I wonder how those are doing? We are a greedy bunch, aren't we! But Whoo! samples! I can't wait!) Anyway, I'm not a foaming hand wash kind of guy. (Shocking, I know.) Eh, I don't know, the foaming hand wash just doesn't cut it for me. I feel like I have to wash my hands twice for some reason, cause it's this light foamy stuff that isn't as GRR as the gel hand wash. Don't ask me, I know LOTS of people that lust the stuff, so I'm in the minority. Ok, but what I loved was, every time I'd use the foaming hand wash, the scent of refresh mint would linger wonderfully on my hands! Mmm! Great, great, great!

Then I bought the body wash. And it didn't linger. Hmm? How very odd? But the foaming hand wash does? Hmm? Well, the minute I run out of foaming hand wash, I'm going to buy some gel, cause gel is the way I go!

And I did. And it works great as a hand wash, just like all the rest. Nothing to complain about at all! BUT (ok, one thing?) the scent doesn't linger. Just like the body wash? Is this a gel issue? Has Nathan really lost it? What's going on here? Does the foaming hand wash somehow hold onto the scent better? Could it be that double washing I was doing? LOL Who knows? (Nathan is SURE hung up on lingering scents, let me tell you! What is his deal? Geesh!) Anyway. I found it odd.

So here's the thing, I'm giving it a 4.5 out of five, cause it works great, as all their hand washes do! But again, I wish the refresh mint scent lingered longer. As for the foaming hand washes, I have yet to see them hit the Target stores, while the gels have been out for a little while.

OH, and one other thing, I don't know why I feel this way, but the previous waterflower scent in the bloq line was nice, clean, light; but just alright. And even in the marine naturals body wash, it's just alright. But everytime I go to smelling the gel hand wash in waterflower, I just go MMM! I love it! I think I might have to get some in the gel hand wash!

Don't ask me, I've really got issues. Or a very sensitive nose... who knows?

method roundup!

It's another video day here at method lust! (You know you love it! Yes you do. Why? Cause I said so, that's why!) The folks over at Green Gear have given us their own method home products roundup! Check it out:

method Home Cleaning Products Overview Roundup Review by Green Gear

Yee Haww!!! This here is a Method Home Cleaning Products Overview Roundup!

I have been using a few Method Products around the house for about a year and I am very impressed. They’ve been on my radar recentally becuase their line of products has been expanding dramatically. What used to just be a few products is now a gaggle of them.

Method’s products work well, smell good (but not overpowering), are not tested on animals, recycleable, made naturally (when available), and come in wonderfully designed packaging. I really can’t say enough about them, most of their products would score above a 3 rating on green gear with the only knocks against them being price (just above usually purchased alternative) and mass appeal. Some places you go you can find their stuff on sale for less than the usual stuff. They are situated in the boutique section of the market and usually are a little lower than meyer, green works, etc…

If you go to www.methodhome.com you will see that they have a very rich sustainability policy and it shows in their packaging and product offerings.

One thing that struck me about so many of their items is that they don’t seem to use too many chemicals. As a matter of fact, on all of their soaps, it says “if ingested, drink glass of water to dilute.” How awesome is that. These are products that anyone would feel comfortable sitting on their countertop as they are attractive looking and not too bulky.

Green Gear will review a few of these (like the Omop) in greater detail but (above) is a 12 product video overview of Method’s product offerings."

squeak-ably cute

The Dieline has a short but sweet bit on the new method baby + kids package design! Wish there was a bit more info., but cool none the less!

squirt + mop + enjoy

We don't really talk about the method floor cleaners here much. Oh the omop gets a lot of attention, but poor little lemon ginger, it feels all left out. So how about a review! Yay lemon ginger, yay!

"I am a huge fan of the method line of cleaning products. When they came out with their Omop microfiber mop, I immediately bought the starter kit despite the fact that I already owned something like 7 other mops at the time. The starter kit came with the Omop, one microfiber mop pad, and a small bottle of Lemon Ginger All Floor Cleaner. While I do like method's mop, I think the best part of the starter kit is the floor cleaner. Anyone can use it as a "squirt and mop" cleaning product with all types of mops.

The Lemon Ginger All Floor Cleaner is yellow in color and comes in a 25 fluid ounce oval-shaped bottle. It's very easy to use. All you have to do is squirt it down onto the floor and mop it up with either a dampened Omop pad or another mop. It does an excellent job of lifting dirt from floors without leaving streaks or residue behind. My favorite thing about this product is the fabulous fragrance. It's a delightful combination of strong lemon and spicy ginger that leaves a room smelling fresh and clean for about 30 minutes after use, though I wouldn't mind if it lingered for at least an hour. (hint, hint method)

I paid about $5 for it at Target which is significantly more than your typical Mr. Clean-type products. Still, I love the fact that it's a "squirt and mop" cleanser and the fact that it smells soooooo good. I also rationalize my purchase by reminding myself that it's non-toxic, biodegradable, and it doesn't contribute to the evolution of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

method Lemon Ginger All Floor Cleaner is an excellent floor cleanser that blasts away dirt while still being kind to the Earth. I have been using it consistently for the past several months and I have no plans to switch to another product. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a powerful, non-toxic cleanser.

And while we're at it, how about a flashback review for method's french lavender floorcare (pre-omop!), which you might currently be able to find at your local Big Lots (I did! They have a bunch!)

"I'm a big fan of the method line of non-toxic earth-friendly products, so of course I had to try out the Method Floor Care product. With this manufacturer, you know that your cleaner won't contain harsh chemicals and that beautiful scent will linger after you're done. The biggest question I had before using the cleaner was simple: is it effective? The answer is mixed. Let me explain... The instructions on the package stated that I needed to dilute the cleaner by mixing 1/4 cup with 1 gallon of warm water. This would give me a "no-rinse" cleaning solution. Well, since I don't generally use a mop and bucket to clean my vinyl tile kitchen floors, that left me with a bit of a dilemma. I decided to dilute the solution and pour it into an empty squirt bottle. That way, I could just spritz the solution on the floor, and mop with my generic Swiffer-type mop. Since I'd diluted the product before I put it in the spray bottle, there was no need to rinse.

In general, I was pleased with how the formula cleaned through the dirt on my floors. However, some dried spots needed a bit more effort to scrub out the stain. As with other method products, the floor care cleaner is not as strong as some of the harsher cleaning agents I have replaced it with. But I believe it's well worth the extra physical effort it may take to scrub out an occasional spot.

The formula contains plant-derived ingredients and essential fragrance oils that provide the cleaning power. I believe so much in limiting my access to chemicals and helping out the environment while I do it. I feel strongly that the method line of home care products helps keep my family, my pet, and my environment healthier.

Right now I use the Rosemary Mint and Lavender "old school" floorcare I still have, and just mix it with water in my trial size lemon-ginger bottle you get when you purchase the omop, and it works great! Hmm, speaking of that bottle, my lid has a big crack in it, around the seal. I wonder if method would send me one of those bottles, empty of course? Cause I love using it (cause it's cool and method looking, over just a plain squeeze bottle.) Oh method?

mama just don't shut-up

Mama's got more to say, so shush! Cause when Mama Speaks, you listen; else you might get your mouth washed out with soap! (But if it's the method variety, it'd taste real good! Well, maybe not, but I'd like to think so!)

"Pure Methods
I don’t know about you, but I am not a fan of doing housework. Cleaning products are bad for the environment, the toxic smell gives me a headache, and you can’t help but wonder about their over-all safety when you see the endless warnings on each of the bottles. Unfortunately, the dishes pile up, the dust cakes on and the children start naming the dust-balls. So, what’s a mama to do?

Enter Method, a company dedicated to hip, non-toxic, and environmentally friendly cleaning products. They strive to provide “products safe for every surface including Earth's”, and it shows. They have every scent imaginable, from French Lavender to Cucumber (my personal obsession). Their Dish Soap is positively effortless, as its soft and gentle texture leaves those dishpan hands in the past. The All Purpose Spray seems too sweet and too inoffensive in order to work, yet it does so beautifully, and without needing to rinse. Method carries a variety of cleaning products to meet every need, from micro-fiber cloths to flushable wipes (for those that might not be so great at, ahem, aiming). They even have a Detox Kit, containing all the products needed in order to “give dirty the boot and evict toxic cleaning chemicals from your home".

Method has been featured on Oprah and in Vanity Fair, yet they aren’t too big for their britches to have their own blog. They interact with customers and readers, all the while maintaining their quirkiness that draws people in.

Check out Method’s products, where “weirdness is next to godliness”, and you too may find yourself looking forward to cleaning."

life worth living

Over on life worth living, another method advocate has been born! Check it out:

"a couple of my friends have posted about what they love... here is what i love right now - I LOVE METHOD!

a while ago i posted about trying to rid my house of all the bad cleaning supplies and so far i have replaced all my surface cleaners, hand soaps and window cleaning. it has made all the difference in the world. i no longer have headaches and stuffy head for a whole day after i clean. i would literally feel like my head was going to explode from the headaches i would get. now i clean and i have no after effects, it has truly been amazing. i am obviously very sensitive to chemicals... i cannot walk down the garden aisles at lowes because the chemicals drive me crazy. when thad is doing something in the yard with fertilizer... i stay in the house. (ps-don't know if i have convinced him to check out organic fertilizer yet... maybe i will tell him i will help him do lawn work if he buys it {wink wink})

So over the past few months i have been investing in new organic cleaners, going phosphate free, voc free, antibacterial free, all types of bad stuff free. what i have not used of my old cleaners i am going to haul out to the toxic dump site, along with old paint cans, etc. on earth day i was reading a few blogs and came across this great new book that method had written about detoxing your home... i am half way thru it and have already made some other new changes. did you know that 4 trillion plastic bags are made each year... we have gotten into plastic bag rehab here... we own reusables and we recycle any plastic bags that accidently come home.

my next new purchase is one i am dying to go buy today (the method omop) (but won't because i am good). then i can get rid of all my floor cleaning supplies....bring on the 5 second rule. nothing bad in this here cleaner... pure organic goodness. my kids could eat off the floor with this bad boy! ha ha. well maybe not, cuz of the dog, but you know what i mean.

i am not advocating that method is the only organic cleaner... but with a smell that yummy... what are you waiting for... go forth and clean mothers, in an organic way! and check out this site, if you want some method lusting news, visit method lust!"

for the love of the ocean

Who loves method sea minerals hand wash? Here's who:

"I love Method products. Since my friend Katy introduced me to the company a few years ago, Method soaps, dish liquids, and laundry products have been a staple in my household.

Method's slogan is "people against dirty" and they aim to make quality cleaning products without the harsh chemicals commonly found in the leading brands.

While stocking up at methodhome.com recently, Sea Minerals Hand Wash caught my eye. Method Hand Wash comes in a 12 oz teardrop-shaped clear plastic bottle with a pump. When you're ready to use the soap, simply twist the pump according to the arrows and it will unlock.

I absolutely adore the Sea Minerals scent. It smells fresh and heavenly. I don't think it necessarily smells like the sea; truth be told, I find the sea to actually be kind of stinky. I've lived on the Gulf Coast, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Puget Sound, and each beach shares a common fragrance: a semi-fishy, salty, seaweed-esque smell. Sea Minerals Hand Wash doesn't smell salty or fishy or seaweed-like, though. It's hard to describe the scent with words other than "fresh" and "clean", but I truly love the way this soap smells and it makes me look forward to washing my hands!

Looking at the ingredient list, I think "Sea Minerals" is just the name for the fragrance rather than a special ingredient, unless they are counting sodium chloride as the "Sea Mineral." Nonetheless, I buy this product for the scent and not for any benefits I may or may not be getting from said minerals.

Method Hand Wash is not antibacterial, thank goodness! I'm one who believes that antibacterial products are way overused in homes with healthy inhabitants, and I try to avoid them unless absolutely necessary.

While Method Hand Wash is not a moisturizing hand soap, I find it to be less drying than typical soaps. I was using a Bath & Body Works Moisturizing Hand Soap previously, and it made my skin feel very dry compared to the Method soap. I still have to use a hand cream a few times a week, but I do think that Method Hand Wash's ingredients are gentler on my sensitive skin.

Method produces plenty of bubbles, but the suds seem to be softer and larger than the foam produced by the average soap. The lather isn't as dense, but that's ok: I feel like it stays on my hands rather than sliding right down the drain.

Unfortunately, the amazing Sea Minerals scent does not linger on my hands.

Hand Washes from this company are reasonably priced at around $4 and available in several scents including Pink Grapefruit, Cucumber, Green Tea & Aloe, Sweetwater, and Lavender. Method also offers a Foaming Hand Soap.

I love Method Hand Wash, and Sea Minerals is a fresh unisex scent that most people would enjoy. Highly recommended!
- carlyoof"

I definitely agree with the unisex statement! In fact, I feel this scent is more masculine than many of method's previous fragrances! So now guys who are afraid of pink grapefruit (it's your friend, feel the pink! Be one with the pink!) can feel free to pick up more method hand soap!
