A couple tidbits!
+ I've begun noticing method hand wash bottles are now sporting cute little laundry detergent samples (attached at the bottle neck!) So if you haven't yet, this is a great way to try out their new 8X laundry detergent before you buy a bottle!
+ And speaking of their laundry detergent, over on their Facebook page an advocate asked them:
"I really love your new super-concentrated pump-style laundry detergent. Any chance a fabric softener in the same container is coming?"
...to which method answered with a big ole "stay tuned!" (Which I'd say is a yes!)

projects - candle, candle
(Hey Kirby, I've finally done it!) Guess what I did this weekend? Make candles! Well, sort of. I remade candles! That's more like it! Let me explain...
Remember when method first introduced their candles in the new glass bowl? It was right around the holidays, and they had holiday candles, and their standard aircare candle line, and they'd even brought back gingerbread + spice! And you know what else? These candles sucked! The things just didn't burn properly. (And then method reworked the soy wax, made it perfect, and canned the entire candle line right after. Sigh.) Well, anyway. I'm working on all that in therapy. But the good thing is, instead of throwing out all that wax each burnt candle left behind (and it was a lot) I saved it. I'd just take a fork, break up the remaining wax (it's SO easy!) and place it in a small bowl. My plan for the longest time was to melt each scent down, and make "new" method candles! Recycle, recycle, recycle!
Fellow method luster Kirby (who I gave a shout out to at the beginning of this post) had done this ages ago with her frosted fir candle (please method bring back frosted fir this year for the holidays! Just the scent in the hand wash! Please, oh please please pretty please! I lust it so much and failed completely to stock up on that scent for some insane reason... oh my, but I'm so digressing...) And, focus. Kirby had taken her remaining frosted fir wax and made tea lights from it! Such a great idea! And she told me how to do it, and I told her I'd give it a try, and in the back of my mind I knew it would be so hard to do, and I didn't do it for a zillion years, and finally I got up the nerve to do it this weekend! And a) it was so ridiculously easy I can't even believe it; and b) now I'm sorta addicted! I want to make candles, like, all the time! Ha ha!
What you see in the photo at the very top are six candles I made this weekend! With leftover method candle wax! How frickin' cool is that?! I now have a frosted fir, a fig, two pomegranate tea, and a spiced pear. And I have some more leftover wax (as you can see on the left) from a hollyberry candle and lavender + lemongrass. As I use up my candles, I'll scrape out the remnants and save them for some more candle makin'! You would think "Eh, I wouldn't have enough wax to make a whole candle!" Well, all I'd do is scrape out a spoonful or so from each used up fig candle, and before you knew it, I had one whole candle! Yay!
What you see in the second photo is me melting some leftover apricot basil wax from method's premium candle line from oh so long ago. And a little white ceramic jar awaiting it's elixir!
It's all so easy to do it's quite maddening! Here are the steps:
1 + Run out to your local candle supply/craft/hobby shop (I went to Michael's) and pick up some wicks! Read the package carefully, as not all wicks will work with soy candles. I bought the extra-large (which sounds humongous, but really isn't) for these as I knew that was the size they used in the glass jars, BUT those didn't burn well; so I wanted to try the same size in the smaller ceramic jars - figuring it would burn better (obviously.)
2 + Wash out some old method ceramic candle jars (or other container if you so desire - I have about a zillion of these things though, so I thought I'd reuse them!) and grab a pot/saucepan, fill up with a little water and place on your stove; once it reaches boiling pop a metal mixing bowl (I found one for a buck at a thrift store!) over top of the pot/saucepan - and tada, you've just created a double boiler!
3 + Throw your wax in the metal mixing bowl, it will slowly melt over the boiling water (without burning cause it's not on direct heat! And the mixing bowl shouldn't be sitting IN the water, but on top of the pan. The wax will melt from the hot steam that's hitting the bowl.) and as that does it's thing, take one of your wicks, dip the metal end into the melting wax, and stick it to the bottom of your candle container (the wax will sorta hold it in place.) I also put a pencil on top of the container to help center the wick.
4 + Once the wax is melted, pour into your container, adjust the wick a bit if it moved around. And you're DONE! So (allow me to say it one more time!) easy peasy!
+ Keep in mind you're dealing with hot steam, boiling water, and hot melted wax, so safety first as they'd say in first grade!
Now here's the hard part, the waiting. I wanted to burn them right away! But patience is a virtue, patience is a virtue, Nathan. Just let it sit. I actually let mine sit over night, and it had hardened completely by morning. Then just grab some scissors, snip the wick to it's proper size (as you'll have leftover, I actually had enough leftover for more candles! I just have to go buy some more of those metal thingies. And yes, they have a name, I just don't know what it is. LOL)
What you see in this photo are my spiced berry and apricot basil candles from the premium line. I didn't have enough to make an entire candle, but I'm just excited I get to enjoy them a little bit longer now, since I've made half a candle each out of the old wax! And I've been burning the pomegranate tea all evening long and it's working great! So give it a try, send in your pics, and let us know how it works out! Have fun!

contest - arrivederci aircare!
Are you ready? No, no, trust me, you're not! You're NOT! I can promise you! Cause the excitement, the sheer wowness, the overwhelming feeling of no way dudeness will simply be too much for you! Too too much! Much too much! So much too much that the too muchness will become much too much for the too muchness, resulting in well, too much moreness! And that, my method friends, is way too much! So no, as promised, you are not ready.
But you don't need to get ready, cause the ready is already here! (Hey hey, what is he smoking?! Seriously. What?) Listen up advocates! Because I'm about to announce the greatest contest method lust has thrown! The confetti is flying, the streamers are streaming, and the buttermints are out on the table (...for those that like buttermints. But really, buttermints? I mean, you just know you can do better than buttermints. You're not even trying when you serve buttermints, you know what I mean? Oh yes, you do.)
Ok, so perhaps this contest isn't THAT big! Take away the confetti, lose the streamers, and for Heaven's sake, just fill up your pockets with the buttermints so I don't have to see those things anymore! But it's still a rockin' contest! Ok, ok, so what is this contest, already, Nathan? Get to the goods!
Announcing - The method lust arrivederci aircare contest! Aircare is gone. Sniff sniff. The line is history. And it's not being replaced. So what's an advocate to do? Well, toss your name into this contest hat (or just the comments area, it's about the same, right?) and you have a chance to win aircare pill refills AND aroma ring refills! And there will be MULTIPLE winners! In fact, there's a chance to have up to eight winners! Yes, eight!
So what's available, Nathan. Well, first of all I want to give a gigantic shout out to method for oh so wonderously donating the pills and rings for this contest! They ran into their method office vault and snatched up the remaining aircare so that we could keep on aircare lustin' just a little bit longer! So THANK YOU method!
The following scents are available: citrus cilantro, vanilla apple, grapefruit pear, beach sage, cut grass, eucalyptus mint, fresh lychee, gingerbread + spice, hollyberry, lavender + lemongrass, and pomegranate tea!
+
Here's how to play:
Simply answer the following questions in the comments section -
1 How many total pills and rings did method donate for this contest? (Hint: the number is between 1-100.)
2 Give method lust your top three favorite scents from the available list above.
3 Do you currently use aroma pills, rings, or both?
4 Bonus question: What were the three AIRCARE scents method debuted as Fall Editions?
Example answer:
1. 101 (hee hee!)
2. lavender +lemongrass, beach sage, and eucalyptus mint
3. pills
4. (I'm not even giving you a hint here!)
+
You DON'T have to do the bonus question to enter the contest, BUT if you answer it correctly, AND are a chosen winner, you will win ONE extra pill or ring! Ding ding ding! (Hence the up to eight winners, because it depends on how many people guess the bonus question! - And how generous I'm feeling at the time!) The top eight or so commenters that are closest to the correct answer for question #1 win!
Easy as pie, right! Actually easier, cause seriously, pie isn't easy to make. Who thought that saying up? It must have been a grandmother or something!
The contest ends April 15, 2010 at 11:59 PM (est). So get to it! You know you wanna win some aircare! Cause this might just be your last chance!

spring cleaning
Looks like method's done a little spring cleaning to their site when we weren't looking! They've simplified the navigation (method | shop products | join people against dirty) and added some new sections to the shop area: what's new, kits + gifts, and schwag! (And retained air care, which I find VERY odd.)
They also raised their free shipping minimum from $50 to $75. Thoughts?
Check it out next time you're over on methodhome.com!

seal of approval!
I'm not sure if method's new laundry detergent will be carrying the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval any time soon, but those Good Housekeeping people sure are lovin' the new detergent! Here's what they have to say:
"method Laundry Detergent Pump Review by Carolyn Forte
By now, you've probably noticed a new, kind of out-of-the-ordinary detergent bottle in the laundry aisle of your favorite store. Slim, compact, and topped with a handy pump, Method's new 8x concentrated laundry detergent is making conventional detergent bottles look well, obsolete.
Say goodbye to messy pouring and accidental spills. And remember my advice about overusing detergent? With this new design there's no more looking for that virtually invisible line inside the cap. Simply pump in what you need; 2 squirts for a small load, 4 for medium, and 6 for large. Got a stain? Pump a little directly on it, too.
I've been using it at home, and simply love the convenience (and the neatness). Of course, being GHRI, we had to test its ability to remove stains, and we were impressed. The plant-based formula completely erased grass, egg, even ink from our cotton test swatches.
Suitable for both traditional and HE machines, the detergent comes in two scents, Fresh Air and Peony Blossom, and Free + Clear for those who prefer no scent at all.
Kudos to Method for thinking "out of the jug"!"
+
Pretty awesome, no? So what has your experience with method's new laundry pump detergent been? Love it? Hate it? Love it a little bit - sorta how you feel about olives? Hate it but secretly love it but you're passive aggressive so you pretend to hate it while really loving it and hoping one day it'll come around to realizing you really love it and are just pretending to hate it? (Oh wait, or was that me and my last boyfriend? I get everything so confused sometimes...) Comment away!

contest - you've been bagged!
UPDATE Contest closed!
+
Did I mention how much I love Baggu Bags? I mean, we're already heading off to the store to pick up our lustful method green cleaning products. Shouldn't we, at the checkout lines, slip our purchases into just as green a bag? Yes we should! Down with plastic bags! Chant ten times! Now! I said, now! Ok, sorry. I can be a bit demanding at times. I promise, no more yelling. Well, alright, I doubt I can keep that promise, but I'll try.
So, check out this really great video showing you all about how the Baggu Bag works, and even where it's made! So simple, so neat, such a great product! And being SO sweet (and reading method lust! Who knew?!) - Baggu treated me to a couple bags (thank you, Baggu!) and now I'm going to pay it forward, and treat one of you to a Baggu!
Contest time! One lucky winner will receive a cool regular sized (the color is sage, I believe - perfect for a guy or a gal!) Baggu bag! All you have to do is give your name in the comment section, and tell me what you'd put in YOUR Baggu! Contest ends March 15th! (And just cause I'm all sorts of nice, I'll throw in a nifty method goodie, too!)

squeeze me, please me
tada! method is releasing a new scent to their floorcare line! You can now get your squirt + mop floor cleaner in ginger yuzu! At first I was really worried this was going to replace the lemon ginger (which is a no contest in my book! Lemon ginger wins big time!) But the ginger yuzu is an expanding part of their exclusive Whole Foods line. Whole Foods also carries dish soap and spray cleaner in ginger yuzu. method also mentions this can be found at select natural grocery stores.
I'm not a ginger yuzu hater (really! That's what I stock the work bathrooms with! Ginger yuzu hand wash!) but does ANYONE else think it smells nothing like ginger, and everything like pineapple? Cause to me, it's pineapple scent. Ha ha!

you ylang-ylanged?
method's got a big ole' question for you over on their Facebook page! Don't be left out on having your voice heard on this one, as it concerns a product (and a scent) they've had around fo'EVER!
"survey for the sniffer: we’re thinking of changing the method daily shower spray fragrance. keep it the same - ylang ylang; or a new scent; or eucalyptus mint? tell us why!"
So click on over and give them your opinion (we all know you have one! - And they've already received over 145 comments!) AND then also let us know what you think, here in method lust's comments section!
Do you lust ylang-ylang? Or is it so ylong-ylong? Oy vey.
+
Personally, I think they've reduced the strength of the scent recently. With the last bulk refill I purchased I noticed two things. Suddenly the contents had gone from clear, to a light yellowish tint. And it used to be, you'd spray that and get an immediate rush of ylang-ylang. And now, with this new bottle, I barely notice the scent. So unless I'm losing my sense of smell, I think they've already made some changes. Some people complain it's too strong. Thoughts?

just when you think...
...you've seen it all! Someone is apparently selling 10 $1.00 off coupons for the new method laundry detergent! No buyers at the moment, but it can be yours for a mere $4.00!
I figure this is all kinds of "not kosher", but alas. I guess if you can get an extra $6.00 in method coupons for free (since you are paying for the first 4) it's better than nothing? Interesting...

aircare at marshalls!
What's that you say? You're not sick of hearing about aircare yet? Well, then! Ha ha ha... but actually this is great news! People are finding discontinued aircare products at their local Marshalls (a store brand owned by TJMaxx, even though they don't carry the same products, which I always find odd as they're really the same stores but with different names.)
Advocates have found cut grass pills, pomegranate tea candles, and more! In fact, I ran to mine the day I found out (you bet I ran!) and while I didn't find what I was HOPING to find (Oh I had dreams! Dreams of waterfalls full of method aircare raining down on me as I giddily grabbed all the wonderous products and scents and threw them into my cart. But that didn't happen! Who knew? Marshalls just isn't what it used to be, without all their product waterfalls and such. Oh how I used to spend a relaxing weekend under their product waterfalls, pina colada in hand, sipping under the fluorescent sun. Yeah, at this point if you're still reading what I'm writing, I feel for you. Really and truly. No, just stop. I mean, just stop reading what I'm writing here and move onto the next paragraph. You'll be happy you did. Fer reals.)
I did find some holiday pill refills! You just don't know WHAT you might find! So rustle up the kids, and make a run for Marshalls! And when you do, let method lust know what you find! (So I can be all kinds of jealous.)

the comments are in...
...concerning method's decision to discontinue the entire aircare line (something many people don't seem to have grasped yet. A few think they've only discontinued the pills, perhaps because of the photo they used with their article?) And peeps, they ain't happy! (Count me as part of this group, too!) Here's just some (of the many) comments taken from method's official blog, and Facebook page:
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Are the pill plug in parts recyclable? I have so many... Very sad."
"i'm sorry but don't a TON of people make similar natural cleaning products while pretty much NOBODY makes natural air care products???"
"I can't find any equivalent for air care, nothing anywhere! There are NO plug ins! But there are a shed load of eco friendly cleaning products! Talk about missing a trick."
"no more lotions and no more candles. besides my mom needing some cleaning sprays once in awhile this is pretty much good bye for me."
"I'm seriously, really and truly, UPSET about this. These are the only air fresheners I trust in our home. The ingredients in all the others are such a mystery to me. I use the lavender ones both at home and at work, since lavender helps a lot with headaches. I also love the sweet water and the holiday scents. I was willing to pay more for them ..."
"VERY upset about this. I hope there is some new amazing air product to replace these. I hate when I find products I love and then they change or are discontinued. Just ends up making me shop elsewhere. Not smart Method."
"Please bring back the aircare line!!!"
"honestly, i used to go OUT OF MY WAY to buy the air care b/c i'm really sensitive to chemicals & perfumes (even though i have to drive to another city to get it). i do have some of their cleaning products, but now that i live in a town w/o a target, i do end up buying seventh generation for cleaning. air care was the only thing keeping me with method. i bet they are going to regret this move."
"I can't believe the aircare line has been discontinued! the aroma plug-ins are the only air-care products that lasted a long time, didn't smell like a chemical and came in a beautifully designed package. has anyone found out why it was discontinued?"
"Just came back from hoarding AromaPills & Rings @ Target. This was so not a good business decision. ;("
+
And then my favorite, apparently from a very optimistic person:
"i believe one day they will emerge again... :)"
How's that for hope?

which is the best green cleaner?
Apartment Therapy is having their very own "Which is the best green cleaner?" contest! So head on over and vote, vote, vote! As of this posting method and Mrs. Meyers are neck n' neck! What does that mean, anyway? Neck n' neck? Hmm... gotta Wiki that one!
Oh, and this also reminded me of something I was going to give a shout out about a while back (I have short term memory problems, ok?) Did you know Martha Stewart now has her own line of green cleaners? I had no idea until seeing an ad in a magazine (probaby hers!) recently! Hmm... and they're available at Home Depot. (Which is interesting, since method is available at Lowes! A little exclusivity green competition, eh?)

arrivederci, aircare
I so called it. Sad face.
From method's official people against dirty blog:
"it’s time to come clean. today we say ‘bon voyage!’ to a good friend — air care.
our ‘people against dirty’ have been asking for a few months now, “what's happening with method aircare (i.e., air enhancers, aroma rings, plug ins, soy candles and aroma sticks)?” we're sorry we haven’t been able to give you the whole air care story until now.
as many of you have guessed, air care will no longer be part of the method line, but you'll still be able to find our air care products online and at a few retail partners. if you love our air care products, BUY THEM NOW because we don’t have any plans to reintroduce them.
it was a really, really tough decision to exit out of air care. after all, we’re the little guy who brought innovation and heavenly smells to a world of fake pine and aerosol orange. we’re so proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish together with our people against dirty in this space. given the size and budgets of bigger companies making similar products, with not-so similar ingredients, we’ve decided to focus on leading the home revolution in areas where we can continue to make a difference — under the counter, in the loo, on the floor, in the sink…well, you get the idea.
we’re really proud of all the air care products we made and are sorry if this news is disappointing. if you're one of the loyal people against dirty who love our air care products, the best places to find them are: methodhome.com, drugstore.com, amazon.com, lowes home improvement centers and duane reade (nyc).
feel free to share your favorite air care memories and scents in the comments below — mine was vanilla apple. thanks for hangin' in there with us."

Thoughts? (I personally think this is a REALLY bad move on method's part. But I guess only time will tell.)
This is my favorite quote so far from over on the method Facebook page (where they also posted this news):
"I'm sorry but don't a TON of people make similar natural cleaning products while pretty much NOBODY makes natural air care products?" - I completely agree.

quick quotes
Here's an interesting quote for thought (this is in response to an article concerning a more recyclable milk jug; but I think it covers recycling in general, as well):
"...We have to stop making things that are "recyclable" and close the loop to make things reusable. 70% of recyclable goods end up in the land fill or floating out in the middle of the Pacific. Recycling for the general consumer is a stop gap measure that is a loser - unless there is a large economic incentive (i.e. deposit fee). I pay $1.50 at the supermarket for a glass milk bottle that costs $3.99. I have a huge incentive to return this bottle for my $1.50. And if I don't, it's not plastic that takes decades to biodegrade. Let's end the insanity of recyclable as the answer..."

hard to find deals! - 10% off!
Sometimes it's rather time consuming and just plain exhausting running all over town looking for discontinued method deals at your nearby Big Lots, Ross, etc.! So hey, why not let someone else do all the work for you!
Rachel runs the Better Bath and Beauty store on ebay! It's chock full of all kinds of well, bath and beauty products! But the really great thing is she's got a whole bunch of method goodies mixed in there, too! Like, lots! She'll run all around HER town (and beyond, I'm getting the feeling) snatching up method items to sell on her ebay store! In fact, I'm really glad she doesn't live anywhere near me (at least I don't think she does) cause I have a feeling all my Big Lots would be method free! Ha ha! (She'd buy them all up!)
And get this, she wants to help us out! Looking for your favorite discontinued aircare product? Holiday hand wash? Dryer sheets, dish soap, wipes, and more? Whew! Well, make sure to check out her store (I've set up the link so it immediately shows you all her method products! Yeah, I'm sorta great that way...) and when you decide you simply must purchase up scores of her items, she's gonna give us a 10% discount! How grand is that! When placing your orders simply use the blue "Make Offer" button in her listings and mention methodlust.com in the "Add additional terms" section. And you'll get 10% off! (And what's extra special cool is on most of her items shipping is free!)
So head on over now! You know you need some spiced pear hand wash, and method lullaby baby laundry detergent; oh and those water lily + aloe dryer sheets, wait are those peppermint vanilla pill refills? I better take out a loan...
Thanks, Rachel!

method profile - todd d
Like a Phoenix from the fire, it returns! Oh yes it does, method profile is back, and ready to take names! Well, cause it has all these thank you notes for reading it that need to be sent out, but no names! Or addresses, so after names, it's ready to take addresses! Ok, so with that said, well, really, it has absolutely nothing to do with anything, except that... uhm, like a Phoenix from the fire, method profile is back!
1+ Your name, please? And do you have a nickname at method?
My name is Todd D. No real nicknames around the office. In my youth my nickname was “bonecrusher” because of a few unfortunate incidents on wrestling mats during physical education.
2+ What was your first method lust?
The first method product I ever lusted after was the icon dish soap by Karim Rashid. I was totally going through a “The Jetsons” type look and that dish soap bottle was love @ first sight.
3+ What brought you to method, the company? (How did you become interested in a career with method?)
Well method used to have this amazing pop up store in San Francisco and I would saunter in all the time and check out the merchandise. As a result I was asked to sample some new products (original detergent huge bottle) and kind of always kept up with what was going on @ method. Then serendipity happened and a job became available.
4+ What is your title/dept. at method, and what is it you do there? How long have you been with method?
My title is soap operator (hum to yourself the Sade classic Smooth Operator or better yet - my job is to make sure that our customers are taken care of and that they feel loved.
5+ What is the biggest thing you are currently doing, besides using method products, to help out the environment?
I don’t have a car so walking or taking public transit. Oh and I always recycle my champagne bottles.
6+ Who's the last person you've turned onto method?
My parents. The day I saw them toss that huge nasty detergent and switch to the new sleek 8x concentrated design was one of the happiest of my life.
7+ Which one best describes you as a person? Pink Grapefruit, French Lavender, Cucumber, or Go Naked?
May I do a write-in on this one? I think eucalyptus mint describes me perfectly.
Thank you Todd! I bet you talk to Todd, too, readers! He does a whole lot of advocate Q&A when you call, email, Facebook, or send method smoke signals; along with the whole gosh darn wonderous gang of great advocate professionals! So next time you talk to Todd, thank him for this nifty profile, alright? Alright!
That's it for now! But hey, method employees whom I haven't hunted down yet - would you like your very own method profile? Come on, you know you want one! If so, drop me an email and I'll let you know all about it! (It's easy peasy! Just like one, two, three-zy! (And then four, five, six, and oh yeah seven-zy too. Cause that's how many questions there are.)
+
And don't think I've forgotten you method lust readers! How would you like to be the next method lust advocate spotlight? Remember those! Come on! Do it! Do it for me! Or else! Yeah, that's pretty threatening, now isn't it? So you better darn well do one! So here are all the details!
