arrivederci, aircare

I so called it. Sad face.

From method's official people against dirty blog:

"it’s time to come clean. today we say ‘bon voyage!’ to a good friend — air care.

our ‘people against dirty’ have been asking for a few months now, “what's happening with method aircare (i.e., air enhancers, aroma rings, plug ins, soy candles and aroma sticks)?” we're sorry we haven’t been able to give you the whole air care story until now.

as many of you have guessed, air care will no longer be part of the method line, but you'll still be able to find our air care products online and at a few retail partners. if you love our air care products, BUY THEM NOW because we don’t have any plans to reintroduce them.

it was a really, really tough decision to exit out of air care. after all, we’re the little guy who brought innovation and heavenly smells to a world of fake pine and aerosol orange. we’re so proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish together with our people against dirty in this space. given the size and budgets of bigger companies making similar products, with not-so similar ingredients, we’ve decided to focus on leading the home revolution in areas where we can continue to make a difference — under the counter, in the loo, on the floor, in the sink…well, you get the idea.

we’re really proud of all the air care products we made and are sorry if this news is disappointing. if you're one of the loyal people against dirty who love our air care products, the best places to find them are: methodhome.com, drugstore.com, amazon.com, lowes home improvement centers and duane reade (nyc).

feel free to share your favorite air care memories and scents in the comments below — mine was vanilla apple. thanks for hangin' in there with us."

+

Thoughts? (I personally think this is a REALLY bad move on method's part. But I guess only time will tell.)

This is my favorite quote so far from over on the method Facebook page (where they also posted this news):

"I'm sorry but don't a TON of people make similar natural cleaning products while pretty much NOBODY makes natural air care products?" - I completely agree.

into thin air?

Fudge! I maybe, sorta, mighta been right (about something?! It's about time, but why oh why this!) It's pretty much official... the aircare line is history. At least at your local Target!

This weekend I noticed at one of my nearby Targets that the pill refills were not only sold out, but the stickers on the shelves had been removed and other aircare items had been placed there to take up the extra space. "Hmm..." I thought to myself, "not good! Not good at all!" I attempted another try at prying anymore information about the aircare line out of method's mouth (which aircare wise, has become the equivalent of Fort Knox. Seriously.) Their response was pretty much a "no comment." Ha ha! So, with that in mind, I just decided to wait and see. (But I'm so impatient! I must know now! I have no life, so throw me a bone here, ok? Or, I could just get a life. Eh, that's probably way too hard. Just throw me a bone. That'll do.)

Well, tonight I ran into Target (again?! Don't even go there) and upon entering the aircare line, my heart sunk. The ENTIRE line - clearanced. Well, almost the entire line. Oddly enough, the aroma rings were not clearanced. What the heck is that all about? I can't imagine they sell more aroma rings than every other aircare item to result in Target still carrying them?! Curiouser and curiouser...

So, it looks like I was right. The line is clearanced. Which at least in Target terms for this current version, is the same as discontinued. Lavender + lemongrass. Sweet water. Vanilla apple. - Run, buy, while they're still here! Meanwhile, here are my thoughts.

+

There are three options here, as far as I can tell.

+ Option A. The line is done for. History. Over and out. Neither here, nor there. MIA4EVER. method has just decided to drop the aircare line and be done with it. But, here are the weird things. 1) Target didn't discontinue the aroma rings? Hmm, part of a new line? But why keep these particular scents in the aroma rings, when they didn't in the pills? 2) I'm gonna confess something, given what's happend here I think it's safe for me to do so now. Whenever I'd ask about the line at method, I'd get a "I'd stock up on my favorite aircare products if I were you!" Translation: discontinued! But wait, there's more...

+ Option B. A brand spankin' new aircare line is about to debut! Why not keep the pills then? Well, they want to sell the new scents (and here's hoping they still HAVE the pills, or I will cry scream yell and murder! Well, maybe not murder... but it'll be close!) so they're clearancing off the old ones. But wait... 1) Target isn't clearancing the aroma rings, in the same scents. Even if they came out in new scents, wouldn't they also clearance these current versions if they're doing it to the pills? Gah. And but 2) Many advocates who have called method and asked straight up about the aircare line were told "the aircare line is here to stay. No worries!" But wait, what? You told me to stock up? Is someone just lying? method doesn't lie! Lying is so ungreen! (Right?) Unless... stock up (on the old stuff) but don't worry about the line (cause there will be new stuff!) Whew! Or...

+ Option C. Target is only going to carry the aroma rings. And that's it. No new line. method will still maintain the aircare line, and you'll be able to buy small amounts of it in places like Lowe's (who currently carries them, though not to the extent that Target does.) You'll also be able to buy them on method's online store (though we all know that would cost us a small fortune, so poo poo on that one.)

+

Now, what do YOU think? Will you miss the current aircare line? Do you think another one is on the way? My only other reasoning for thinking we MIGHT be seeing a new one is simply method's tight lips on this. I have never in all my years conversing with method felt so locked out of what was going on with a product line of theirs. I mean, what is the point? If you tell people it's being discontinued, it shouldn't hurt sales; in fact it might help them cause people will go and stock up before it's gone. And if you tell them there is a new line, people will still stock up on the old stuff AND be excited for the new stuff. But I'm thinking maybe, MAYBE we'll be seeing a new line and method's just being really hush hush about this one 'til the big debut!

Either way, we should know in mere weeks. Once Target finally pulls the remaining aircare product from the shelves, and puts them on the endcaps (like they always do).. and we find out just what they put in it's place? Hmm...

surprise finds!

I've noticed my exclamation point over usage has seeped into my post titles now! They're everywhere! Everywhere, I tell you! Ah!)

I took a quickity-quick trip into Ross today (a store in the same vein as Marshalls, TJ Maxx, etc.) because I knew they carried clearance Target items every once in a while. Specifically Target brand candles, etc. So as I wondered down the candle/fragrance aisle, what did I stumble upon but some lavender + lemongrass candles! In the new glass bowls! Now, these were the old "hard to burn" formula, so I sorta passed, but they were only $2.99! Then I noticed around five cut grass aroma pills (the whole set, pill and refill) for a mere $4.49! And finally I saw two cinnamon bark aroma stick sets for $4.99 each! (A perfect find for the upcoming holidays! Especially since we won't be getting aroma sticks in this year's holiday line.) Wow!

If you have a Ross near you, a trip to the store might be in order! Let me know if you happen to find anything different, or what you pick up, method style! (You can also tell me what you pick up non-method style, but then I don't want you to think I'm straight up nosey, so really, you don't have to, alright? Cool.)

spit n' polish?

I have a confession to make. Are you ready? Ok, here goes. I lust me some method aircare! Capital L. capital U. capital S. and oh yes, capital T. It's the greatest! And I feel a really important part of that whole cleaning process! (Plus it just makes the cleaning even more fun, as even though all our wonderful method cleaning products have amazing scents; they don't tend to linger very long once the cleaning is finished. But some spritzes around the house of aroma spray, or a slowly burning candle keeps their wonderful scents wafting throughout your home all day long!)

Personally (and I'd love to get your thoughts on this, as well!) I don't think of aircare as a "occasional/not necessary" cleaning item. As I just said, I can clean my house up all spic and span great, but uhm, cats (and kids if you've got them) and all that stuff, well, it can leave your house not so great smelling! And that's where aircare comes in! Once your house is looking all grand from some omop mopping, and some all-surface squeaky cleaning, it's really the aircare (in my humble opinion) that keeps the clean going! Like those awesome aroma pills and rings that make my house smell luscious, constantly! And then throw in some aroma spray for those quick scent disasters, and a candle to not only add atmosphere to your house, but great MMMs, and it all comes together perfectly!

And you know what else, I'm shocked that this line within the cleaning aisles is so limited to only a few companies. Glade, and to a degree Renuzit, pretty much OWN the aircare aisles! I've never really figured that one out, because really, most times their scents do not win me over. "Rain Covered Mountains", "Springtime Showers", "Fruit Feista" what kind of scents are thoses?! (Ok, well, ones I just made up, but usually their names are rather close!) I'll stick with my lavender lemongrass, or vanilla apple method aircare, thank you. At least you know what you're getting (lavender, and oh yeah, lemongrass!) and that it's also great for the environment, and you!

+

But here's my question. Do you think it's time for some spit n' polish to the method aircare line? It seems to have been languishing for a bit, and I think it needs a slight shakeup! Honestly, within the last half year or so, the line has really slowly been restocked in my local Target stores for some reason; often times leaving big gaps in their aircare selections. And aircare used to feature four regular scents, along with (usually) a limited edition spring scent (and fall!) Now we've got three regular scents, and (at least this year) no limited edition spring.

Plus, and I can't believe I'm about to say this, as I LUST me some lavender lemongrass, but for the greater good of the line, I think it's time for a complete scent reinvention! Here's MY thoughts on improving the line:

+ Reduce. The aroma sticks have to go. I love them, don't get me wrong. But the price point is too high, we've all wanted method to provide sticks, oil, and a vase separately (which obviously they're never going to do. But OH, I saw that Target is now offering this in their candle aisle! Sticks, a little bottle of oil, and a vase; in different scents and shapes to choose from! Make your own aroma stick set! I love it! So it is possible, method! Ha ha!) Keep the aroma sticks as a holiday line item. That's where I think they work best.

+ The Trinity. I consider (and some of you lusters aren't going to like what I'm about to say) the Trinity of method aircare to be: candles, aroma spray, and pills. Like I mentioned above, the pills provide continuous scents to make your home smell great; the candles provide atmosphere and additional scent when you want it, and the aroma spray provides quick solutions to "disaster smells". LOL

+ But, I know lots of folks out there that love their aroma rings over pills, SO perhaps they should hold on to those as well (in bamboo? Better for the environment, and prettier!) Four items. Four scents.

+ Four new scents. I'm willing to sacrifice my favorite scents, if it means perhaps reinvigorating the aircare line by bringing in four new regular scents. These three they currently sell have been around forever! Ha ha! Time for something new! Imagine the possibilities!

+ Smooth sailing. The candles burn great once again! The aroma sprays work well (I'm still not completely sure about that o-ring; I lust that o-ring, and it's ease of carrying; but it just needs a small round notch cut out on the front bottom, because I'm always having to watch how I point the nozzle, or it'll hit that ring area attached to the bottle and run down the can; but whatevah...), and the pills have always rocked (especially the nightlite version!) And the aroma rings work way better than their original aroma capsules, so I think they've got a great line here. It's just time for some shimmy and shake!

+

Whew! So, what do you think? Am I out of line here? Or could the aircare line use a little spit n' polish? Do you use the aircare line? Do you think it's an important part of your overall cleaning process/keeping the house feeling, and smelling fresh? Comment!

Just a quick note to let you know Target has reduced (permanently!) prices on select method products! The aroma pill night lights we lust so much have dropped from $8.99 to $7.99; with the regular aroma pills now $6.99 from $7.99. Also, the squeaky green kids washes are $5.99, from $6.49! (Yeah, I took a trip to Target tonight, can you tell?)

method lust market

UPDATE Had a problem with the Paypal donate button, but it should be shiny new and working right, now! Thanks!

+

Ok, readers! People are screaming, yelling, crying, begging, and well, just peeing their pants (and really, didn't we learn that wasn't a good thing to do when we were three? Come on people, work with me!) over the discovery of peppermint vanilla aroma pills at Big Lots! So, never let it be said that your favorite blog site (ahem, that would be method lust, ok?) doesn't help you out! SO, here's the dish...

I would LUST just buying up all those peppermint vanilla pills and spreading them out to the masses via a big Mardi Gras parade float! But, have I mentioned before that ole' Nate is poor! Poor, poor, always and (hopefully not forever) poor! BUT there is something I can for you! I can be the middle man! (And not in the "I get 50% of the cut" middle man kind of guy, either! Yay!)

Here's how it goes. There are like a zillion packages of peppermint vanilla aroma pill refills (two packs, so for each $4.00 pack, you get two refills) at my three Big Lots. If you would like for me to pick some up for you, all you need to do is donate to method lust!

No wait! It's not a tit for tat thing! What I mean is, you see that donate button on the right sidebar? Ok, it's for donating to ole' method lust! BUT, it doesn't get used much. Ha ha! So, let's dust it off, and use it for a whole 'nother purpose!

(I'm gonna try to make this as easy as possible.) You decide how many peppermint vanilla aroma pill refill packs (2 in each pack) you want at $4.40 each (tax included in that total.) Then add $2.00 for shipping supplies (I'll have to buy a box, definitely use some packing material, and tape it all up.) total it all up, and then click on that donate button, AND list it (you can add a message to the donation) as your peppermint vanilla aroma pill purchase, letting me know how many you're buying, and your mailing and email address. Easy so far, right?

I'll pack it all up, take it to the post office, have it weighed, and THEN get the shipping charge to you. Which you can then also pay via the Donate/Paypal button. I wish I had an easier way to do this part, but I don't really want to charge a flat fee, as someone might buy ten boxes, while someone else might buy two. And really, it's a snap to pay via Paypal!

+

So, what do you think? I'm just tryin' to help all you peppermint vanilla lusters out there, and thought this might be a great idea! I was thinking also, recently, how the method market isn't really cutting it. (sniff sniff) but wondered if this might be a better way for the market to go. What if everyone put in their finds at local stores (especially Big Lots, etc. for discontinued product), and people could purchase them through other readers via Paypal, etc. and the method market? It's a thought! Let me know if you like the idea!

ebay surprises

New method finds from ebay! (They always have a few method items, but I try to find the rare, or great deal finds to post here on method lust!) Today we have a great old school method product!

+ method grapefruit + pear aroma capsule (yes, capsule! The precursor to the aroma ring!) - $6.79 (Buy It Now Price) + $3.21 shipping - This is a great deal! These are really hard to find! They've been discontinued, well, like forever! This comes with one aroma capsule, two AA batteries, and a capsule refill. It would sort of be a one time thing, since it'd be pretty hard to find more refills. But for "vintage" method, this is a great find!

+ method sweet water aroma pill and four refills - $9.99 ($19.00 Buy It Now Price) + $10.25 shipping - Package deal. You're really getting five refills (as the pill comes with one) and a new pill! But I think you might be able to purchase this in the store, and get it slightly cheaper (if you use the Buy It Now Price option.) So I'd try to just bid on the item to begin with, and see where it goes.

yes, virginia, there are mo' ebay finds!

Some great finds on ebay (at actually decent prices, shocking, I know!)

Uhm, remember that first product? It's the original release of holiday spiced pear, in an aroma pill! (method, we WANT our holiday aroma pills and sprays next year! This is a threat, I repeat, a threat! Are you all with me, method lusters! Let's start a method-olution! Holiday pills and sprays, next year!) And you get two of these babies, for one low price! Not a bad deal for some vintage holiday method!

+ method holiday spiced pear aroma pills $14.99 + $6.80 shipping (2) pills and refills

+ method lavender + lemongrass aroma rings $14.99 + $5.55 shipping (5) rings and discs - this is a really good deal, as five rings in Target would cost you $35 big ones!

+ method sweet water aroma pills $25.00 + free shipping! (8) pill refills - another great deal, as these would cost you $32. bucks in the store!

holiday confusion

Oh well, poo. I was so dreaming of sugar plum fairies, gingerbread lattes, and the wonderful whiff of frosted fir aroma pill plug-ins throughout my home! After all, you can light a candle, but it takes a while to get the scent throughout the air; whereas those aroma pills are just working away, all day long (not unlike santa's elves!)

But there appears to have been some confusion. A while back I asked methodtweet (method's very own twitter!) if we were receiving holiday aroma pill refills, and received a response telling me that aroma pill refills for the holiday scents will be available in stores, though not on method's own site. Peppermint vanilla will be selectively included, as well! Yay!

Well, I just received word yesterday letting me know:

"There are no pill refills hitting Target. The Target set is completely new this year. Last year's scents will return to non-Target stores."

So, sniff sniff, no frosted fir, toasted hazelnut, winter berry, or spiced pear pills this year. (Really, method, you've GOT to have pill refills or aroma spray! I demand it! Next year, ok? Promise me, next year!) I'm not sure what "non-Target" stores they mean, but if anyone sees anything pop up, let me know! When I receive more information, I'll let YOU know!

clean sweeps

+ method luster Capri stated in a comment she left recently on method's Facebook page that she has received official word method is discontinuing carrying aroma rings in Canada, siting a lag in sales. All you Canadian aroma ring lusters, pick'em up quick!

+ reader Michelle gave me some money saving news via email:

"...in reference to the post about Method deals on HSN - I have something that makes the deals on HSN even better. HSN participates with ebates.com and if you shop on HSN’s website via Ebates you earn 3% back from your purchase. So, it’s like being rewarded for spending. Ebates sends out checks quarterly and you have the option of either receiving the check for yourself or having it sent to a charity of your choice. All you do is either sign up on Ebates or use someone as your referral (my email is chissler@cox.net - shameless, I know!) Every little penny saved/earned counts for something these days!"

I haven't tried it out myself, but if you do, let me know how it goes!

+ Aroma pill refills for the holiday scents (or at least some, I'm not yet sure which scents will be included) will be available in stores, though not on method's own site. Peppermint vanilla will be selectively included, as well! (These may not be available at all stores, so if you start seeing them, let me know when and where!) OH, how I hope they have Frosted Fir! (Will I ever decide whether to capitalize scent names, or not? No, I doubt I will! What do you think? Caps? No caps? Nathan needs some English help...)

one man review - aroma pill nightlight

Hey all! I'm here with the first of my (hopefully daily, let's see how it goes!) new product reviews!

First up, the much anticipated, much wished for, oh yes we finally got it, method aircare aroma pill nightlight!

Where to begin? Hmm, how about it freakin' rocks! Seriously, straight up I give this five out of five. And I'm not even just bein' nice cause it's a method product! I lust this so much. Take the wonderment that is your current method aroma pill, and give it a Six Million Dollar Man punch-up! (Wait, who is the Six Million Dollar Man, you ask? Man, do I feel old! How about the Bionic Woman! No no, not that "new" blah one on NBC last year. Oh, ok... I'm old, sue me.) and you have the new nightlight!

I love that they didn't mess with a good thing, namely the great Karim Rashid design. But instead took it to the next level, and implemented the nightlight feature that we'd previously seen in other Big Brand plug-ins. It gives this oh so cool, white/blue glow from the whole plastic/plug-in base, and it's just right. Not too bright, not too dim. It's perfect! And it automatically goes on and off, depending on the lighting in the room! How bling is that! (Yeah, I know, I so just used bling really wrong, but I'm working on giving it a new meaning? Ok, spread it around, see what happens.) I can see walking into the bathroom now during the night, without tripping on cats, or furniture, or boyfriends, or... wait, what was that last one again? I've forgotten what that was. Let me look it up in the dictionary. Hold on one moment...

OH! Ok, yeah. I remember what those are now. Ahem, But I digress.

Anywho, you get the same great pill released scent (in my favorite, lavender + lemongrass!) now with glorious glow!

I can't recommend this one more! So go on, pick one up! You'll totally agree with me! One thing I am curious about is if the light bulb in the base is replaceable, when it goes out. And how long does it last? I'm thinking it's probably not, and I bet the bulb lasts a long time, but at $8.99 a pop, I hope it's a real long time.

But seriously, don't let the price hold you back, you won't regret it! Again, five out of five!

sneak peek - you light up my life

Bling! I've got an idea! What about a method plug-in pill, but AS A NIGHTLIGHT! Wouldn't that rock!? Oh my word, I have to mention this to method, they'll just flip and...

Oh, dang.

CHECK it out, it's the new lavender + lemongrass nightlight pill! Isn't it the best! People have been asking for this for quite some time, and I'm so excited method has delivered! And I was really hoping they wouldn't mess with a good thing, and leave the pill the same, but integrate the light, and they did! Now, I don't have all the tiny details as of this moment, so I'm not sure, but it looks to me like the entire "non-glass" portion of the pill lights up!

The packaging calls it an "automatic nightlight." I'm not sure what that means. I'm thinking it doesn't have an on/off switch. Do you think that means it stays on all the time? Or is it light sensitive, turning itself on and off depending on the level of lighting in the room (light, not on; dark, light on)? I think that'd be too pricey for method to invest in. So I'm guessing it's just on all the time, as long as it's plugged in. But we'll have to wait and see! (Unless someone from the wonderful land of method reading this knows? Tell us, we'll be really appreciative and blow you kisses! I promise!)

These SHOULD be out near the end of August (my guess) simply because I think the entire new aircare line will be out on shelves by the end of the month; Target has already clearanced the current "non" nightlight version of lavender + lemongrass, so I think that's a good sign we'll be seeing this very soon. It's currently only being released in lavender + lemongrass (but of course you can purchase any refill scent you wish! But lavender + lemongrass deserves your lusting! It's awesome!)

I can't wait! (I say that a lot, I know.)

aircare extreme makeover!

Come on... the return of aroma enhancer sprays, new smarty dish cubes, marine naturals body wash and scrub, pomegranate tea and gingerbread + spice fall edition aircare scents, new squeaky green laundry detergent and dryer cloths... and more! Oh my word!

That's not enough, is it? Nah, not really. I mean, come on, it's method's eighth year birthday month! We're not playin' around here! Let's celebrate! How about a brand new aircare line makeover! SHO'nough!

Get ready, I just got some mind blowing news tonight about some amazing new aircare items and redesigns we'll be seeing very shortly in stores! Many lusters have already noticed the clearancing of the method aircare candles, and oddly, the lavender + lemongrass pill set, and more! What's going on here?! Well, never fear, it's great news! Are you ready? Are you sitting down. This news is so big, I had to release it over the weekend (and I never do that!) I'm so excited!

Alright...

+ First, method's candles are heading back to glass containers (I'm not sure if they'll retain their iconic Karim design/shape, we'll have to wait and see! I'd be surprised if method changed this, BUT I also know they like to constantly shake things up, so who knows!) They've decided to go back to glass (the candles originally came in glass, before redesigning the line, and using ceramic) since glass is actually recyclable, and ceramic unforunately is not (but they make great dessert cups!) So look for all your favorite candle scents back soon, in glass containers!

+ Method is doing a new test concept for their aroma rings! Specifically in the sweet water scent (are you ready for this??) the ring will be made out of bamboo! OH my word! I hear it simply rocks! And looks SWEET! Bamboo aroma rings! Not plastic! I can't wait! One more exclamation point! There you go.

+ And a biggie (a lot of people have been wanting this) they are re-releasing the lavender + lemongrass pill set (no, lavender + lemongrass is not being discontinued! Hallelujah! It's my favorite!) in a nightlite concept! HOW COOL is that! I can't wait! Oh, wait, I already said that!...

+ The aroma pills will now have single and twin refill packs. So you won't have to purchase two at one time, if you don't wish to! They used to be available in single; then went to only twin; and now they'll be available in both!

+ Look for aroma sticks (in their new streamlined vases!) to come in sweet water, lemongrass + lavender, and now vanilla apple.

+ The four main scents are: sweet water, lemongrass + lavender, vanilla apple, and citrus cilantro.

+ The fall scents will come as follows:
Pomegranate Tea - single pill refill, air enhancer spray, candle, aroma ring refill
Gingerbread Spice - pill refill twin, air enhancer spray, candle

The candles, bamboo rings, and aroma air enhancer sprays are heading to stores as I type this! The rest will play catch up! How excited are you? I can't... no, I won't say it again. (psst, I can't wait!)

NO, I don't have pics at the moment, but as soon as I can get my grubby little hands on some, I'll post them pronto! You know I will. I take care of my own kind! Let method lust know if you start seeing any of these items hitting your very own store shelves!

take one pill...

Over on NOTCOT, there's a quick little article on the method aroma pill (it's a tad bit 2007, but hey, it's still relevant!) BUT, what caught my attention (and I had totally forgotten about this, noticing it as well on a recent Big Lots trip) is the aroma pill box has a scratch-n-sniff sticker! I never knew that until a few weeks ago, did you? The article goes:

"What imagery is more perfect for an aircare product than a giant pill? Afterall, if the need for an air freshener isn’t a giant pill/cure all… what is? Couldn’t resist the draw of method home’s gorgeous packaging and design today... 1) there is a scratch and sniff sticker as the seal of the box. 2) you can turn the plug depending how your plugs are oriented to keep the pill upright 3) playful use of language “Do not turn sideways, or else fragrance oil will spill. Gravity is mean like that.” So true."

There are some more photos of the pill, as well as a statement on their love for the omop (and rightfully so!) But back to the scratch-n-sniff. I had noticed these on the new baby + kids body line, and thought they rocked! They smell really well, also. But when I gave them a try on the aroma pill box, not so much smell. Since it was in Big Lots, it could be way past it's prime "scratch-n-sniff smell period"? I'll have to give a few in Target a try! But I'm loving this whole scratch-n-sniff thing they have going on! Plus it reminds me of my childhood.

Have you noticed the scratch-n-sniffs?

get'em while the gettin's good!

UPDATE Ok, so upon making a quick trip to another local Big Lots, I did discover some fresh lychee pill refills; along with the combo packs. So it does look like those are showing up as well. On a side note, I personally picked up the last two remaining spiced pear candles sitting on the shelf! Yay! They were a little beat up (hello, they're like two years old) and I'd been staring at them for ages, but finally the idea of "who needs lunch when you've got spiced pear!" took over and I just grabbed the suckers!

Also, fellow method luster Greg says:

"At the Big Lots in my city (Cleveland), I found not only the cut grass and lychee pills, but also a bunch of recently discontinued candle fragrances (eucalyptus-mint, fig, etc) AND a few of the big old chocolate-martini candles, which have been discontinued for YEARS. And the chocolate-martini candles were $2.50!"

That's CRAZY! I wish I could find some fig candles! Man! (They still have them on the method home site, but they're $8. which is a bit pricey for moi. I can't believe he found chocolate-martini candles, from the method premium candle line which, like he says, was around years ago! Enjoy!

Previously
While searching out the elusive bloq green mint personal care items at my local Goodwill stores (due to a hint from method lust reader Rebecca that they were selling them at her local Goodwill (I had no luck on my search, sniff-sniff.) I DID discover something at my local Big Lots! (They also carry method items from time to time, and I thought maybe the bloq items had hit there, but again, no...) but they currently have the method aroma pills in cut grass and fresh lychee! For $4.00! (Which is a great savings from their usual price of $7.99 at Target!) This is the plug-in pill/refill bottle combo.

I'm not sure what has happened to this spring edition line. Originally these two scents were to hit stores (to my knowledge) for the spring/summer line, but then the aroma air sprays were discontinued, sort of seemingly throwing a wrench into the aircare line; nothing new showed up for a while in stores, then we got the special edition citrus cilantro and beach sage items; and we did receive the cut grass aroma sticks, but nothing more in the spring/summer line. So I figured sooner or later they'd show up at Target; but suddenly they're at Big Lots. It's just the pill combo box; nothing more (no candles, aroma rings, etc. at least at the moment.) So run and grab some up while they're in stock! It's a great deal! (And I even managed to find three lavender + lemongrass pill refills in the single pack packaging there, too! I bought those up, so you might find them as well!)

If you happen to see any method items at close-out discount stores, or thrift shops, let method lust know! Thanks!

new aroma refills

Looks like the Beach Sage and Citrus Cilantro aroma pill refills have made their debut (thanks for the heads-up, Robert! And I just saw them in Target this evening for myself, as well!) I'm surprised, as the special edition line has been out for a short time now, featured in candles and aroma ring refills. The other surprise is the special edition refills come in the single refill packages (compared to the regular aircare line, which recently switched from the single pill refills to double pack refills. Have a confused anyone? Oh yes, myself...) So run out and pick some up this weekend! Your aroma pill will be so happy, dressed for spring!

method retrospect

method aroma capsule

Every once in a while I'm going to take a look back at a wonderful method product that is no longer with us. (Please, stop that hysterical crying!) Today's product is the method aroma capsule. It debuted along with the original aircare line up.

The product was designed by Karim Rashid, and was a simple two piece "capsule" which stood on your countertop. The front and back pieces snapped together, and you placed two AA batteries inside, which ran a 3-setting mini fan. The mini fan would activate in intervals to release it's scent throughout the room. The scented refills available were eucalyptus + mint, sweet water, grapefruit + pear, lavender + lemongrass, and vanilla + apple. The color of the small "hourglass" shape on the front of the capsule corresponded to which scent you purchased (green for eucalyptus + mint, lavender for lavender + lemongrass, and so on.)

I thought these were an interesting idea (and I owned two of them.) But I never felt they released the fragrance as "potent" throughout the room as I'd want it to be, and felt the aroma pill was superior in this regard (and I have aroma pills all through my house. I love them!)

The aroma capsule was discontinued, and has been "replaced" with the aroma ring; which does a similar thing of not having to be plugged into an outlet; is free standing, and releases scent. The aroma ring does not require batteries, or a fan to spread the scent, making it a simplier to use product. But there will always be a special place in my heart for the cute capsule.
