UPDATE Notice some of the wording/suggestions have changed (statements in italic are new.) Are you planning on discarding your spray? Do you think method should provide refunds?
(From the method home site:) Why can't I purchase your aroma spray?
We have voluntarily withdrawn our Aroma Spray air enhancer as we discovered a manufacturing defect in the formula and stopped selling it as of February 11, 2008.
During routine testing of our Aroma Spray, our Quality Assurance Team identified a contaminant in the formula. This contaminant is a common bacteria found in our drinking water, food and soils and is very unlikely to cause harm to healthy people. While our test results indicate there is unlikely to be a risk to the general population, there may be some risk to those with compromised immune systems, so we have voluntarily withdrawn our product while we obtain greater clarity around this issue.
We regret any inconvenience this may cause. Our Aroma Spray will be unavailable until we determine the root cause of the issue and the appropriate corrections are complete. We are working with the Consumer Products Safety Commission and similar agencies in Canada and the United Kingdom to ensure all appropriate measures have been taken in this voluntary withdrawal.
We recommend that you discard any Aroma Spray in your home. Please note that this issue is isolated to our aroma sprays only and does not impact any other Method products. No other Method products are manufactured at the facility that makes the Aroma Sprays.
Please rest assured that we are treating this issue with the speed, care and attention you would expect from us.
If you have additional questions, please contact Method directly:

Original response: Has there been a recall on the Aroma Spray?
Unfortunately yes. During routine testing of our Aroma Spray, our Quality Assurance Team identified a contaminant in the formula. Initial test results suggest this contaminant is a common bacteria found in our drinking water, food and soils and is not harmful to healthy people. However, there is some potential that it could be harmful to certain people with compromised immune systems. As a matter of precaution, we voluntarily withdrew the product from the market until we are able to fully investigate the potential health impact. As soon as we do get that impact report, we plan to initiate consumer communications as necessary. We have already provided notice to the Consumer Products Safety Commission and will work with them to ensure all appropriate measures have been taken in this voluntary product withdrawal.
This initiative is isolated to our Air Enhancer aroma spray and does not impact any other Method products. No other Method products are manufactured at the facility that makes the Air Enhancers.
Please rest assured that we are treating this issue with the speed, care and attention you would expect from method.

Well, now I know at least why Target refused to sell me that bottle of Fig spray I found a couple weeks ago. What do you plan on doing with your spray now? Continue to use it, or discard it? Personally, I'm planning on continuing to use mine; since they state it's fine for healthy people. I'll keep you updated!

I've just noticed something on my most recent trip to Target that totally didn't click in my mind until now? ALL the method aroma spray bottles are gone! Not only the recalled Fall edition scents, but ALL of them! Hmm? So I started to worry? Are they discontinuing them? I'd just crawl under a bed and cry for, well, a really long time if this were the case! I couldn't imagine, since scented sprays are (at least to my knowledge) very popular.
Then I went onto the method home site, and was checking out the aroma spray section and it states: "sorry, this product is temporarily unavailable online" Hmm? Something is up! I'm thinking they might be redesigning the spray bottle? method loves to update their packaging regularly; and the aroma spray has never had a bottle redesign. I'll post the answer here as soon as I figure this out!

hi - do you know where i can find more info about this recall?
thanks!
Hey! Unfortunately, not at the moment. I'm awaiting more word, I've put the question out there and should have an answer very soon. I'll post it the moment I have something!
thanks for hunting down this info, aaron...i would expect nothing less from someone from as lovely a place as greensboro.
I just purchased a bottle of the Method Spray the other week from a Staples off all places. I totally love it, and am now left wondering what to replace it with? So many of the sprays out there smell like pure chemical, that my choices seem very limited. Might you suggest something that I can now use in place of the Method Sprays?
Kevin, thanks for stopping by! To be honest, I'm not sure what you could replace the aroma spray with. Personally, I'm still using mine (for better or worse?) in the hopes that what they are stating is true, and it should be fine to most individuals; unless you have weakened immune systems and the such.
With that said, I have some Pier One sprays I purchased years ago that I also use now and then. They have some nice fragrances that don't smell chemically. As for the Glade, and Febreze, etc. brands, I tend to stay completely away from them as they do indeed smell very fake and chemical based. I'd say Pier One right now. Anyone else have any ideas? Perhaps I'll think this over and put up a post on alternatives until they re-release the aroma sprays. I sincerely hope they aren't out of production for long!
Nathan Aaron:
Thanks for the reply! I don't have a compromised immune system so I will use every spray left in my bottle but am half tempted to run back to this small town Staples in hopes they still have it (they did last week) and buy the remaining stock lol. Any suggestions you might have would be appreciated, and I will check out the Pier1 sprays. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is just a temporary thing before they start producing them again. I am already addicted to your blog (first day here).
Regards... Kevin H..
Nathan Aaron:
I ordered 2 boxes, a total of 12 of the aroma sprays. They still had them in stock at americarx.com. I then ran to the remote STAPLES store where I made my original purchase and they had not yet pulled them from the shelves and I felt as though beams from heaven were shining upon me as I grabbed them all up with great glory and ran home with my treasures!
I just found your blog and read this post with interest.
I am a Method-holic and went into near shock when they stopped selling the air freshener spray at Target earlier this year.
However.... just the other day I was at Target and saw a new redesigned bottle and bought one. It is "citrus cilantro."
It looks like it has a big O-shaped ring cap on the top. Kind of hard to describe. And I can't find any pictures of the new redesigned bottle anywhere on the web, oddly enough.
Not even on the Method website. Which leads me to wonder this is an unofficial test run.
It makes me want to run back to Target and buy all the remaining bottles while I can. I'm afraid they will yank it again!
